Supporting our communities

Our aims

We're proud of the close links we forge between our Partners and local schools, charities and organisations. And wherever we do business, at home or abroad, we work with communities to make a difference. That's why:

  • Our Community Matters programme in our shops continues to support local charities and community groups.
  • We aim to give at least 1% of pre-tax profits to community initiatives.
  • We will continue to seek out projects that support the John Lewis Foundation at home and abroad.

If you'd like to nominate a good cause for Community Matters please complete the nomination form and take it to the Customer Services department.

The charities we're supporting from November 2016 – January 2017 are:

  • Boys' and Girls' Clubs of Wales - a project in Cardiff that supports Work with disadvantaged young people encouraging participation especially via sport. Our donation will be used to support the development of sports teams in Bridgend.
  • Huggard - A Cardiff-based charity tackling homelessness and seeking to overcome the problems and barriers that force individuals to sleep rough on our streets.
  • Action on Elder Abuse Cymru - a specialist charity committed to preventing abuse against older people.

This is how July 2016 - September 2016 Community Matters' charities benefited from being part of the scheme:

  • Carers Trust received £1178
  • Barnardo's Cymru received £953
  • Cardiff Conservation Volunteers received £870

Would you like to help us
support Barnardo's?

Carrier bag charging

It's a legal requirement for all retailers in Wales to charge customers a minimum of 5p for each carrier bag they supply. Find out more

This means that when you visit John Lewis Cardiff we'll have to charge you 5p for each carrier bag, but of course there won't be any charge if you choose to use your own bags. We'll be donating all the proceeds from each carrier bag we sell to Keep Wales Tidy (KWT), an environmental charity.

For more information on carrier bag charging, please visit the
Carrier Bag Charge website.
