Regular events

Knit and Natter

Join us in The Place to Eat on the last Wednesday of every month with your knitting/crocheting for a knit and natter. The group is completely free and runs from 5pm - 6.30pm.


Is your tablet giving you a headache?

Our Partners will be on hand to offer advice, practical support and guidance to all new tablet owners. There will be a question and answer session running from 11am - 1pm.

July events

Supporting Sheffield Steel Peloton

We're supportng the Sheffield Steel Peloton, a Yorkshire Festival project. Make sure you visit one of the Sheffield Steel Peloton events, where you can learn how to decorate your bike safely.

You can then pick up your free bike decorating pack from our Customer Collection point, use it to decorate your own bike and take part in the city centre decorated bike parade on Saturday 5 July in Barkers Pool.

We'd love to see as many decorated bikes outside our shop, in Barkers Pool, as possible!

Knitting needles

Professional finishing techniques with Rona Stean

This course aims to help those knitters who want to give their knitted pieces a professional finish. Techniques covered include tension, using the correct cast-on for the project, shaping techniques, professional buttonholes, picking up stitches, short-row shaping and three-needle cast-off for shoulder seams, blocking and pressing and sewing up using mattress stitch.  


You'll need to prepare a little homework beforehand by knitting 2 squares using a DK weight yarn and 4mm needles, casting on 28 stitches and working in stocking stitch for 34 rows. Please also bring along size 3.25mm, 4mm and 4.5mm knitting needles, and a small sewing kit.


The class costs £50 to attend and includes light refreshments and lunch. For more information or to book your place, please visit the Haberdashery department.

Sewing machine

Learn to sew with Jenny Stilwell

In this workshop you'll cover the basics of using a sewing machine. Learn how to read, pin and cut out a simple sewing pattern. On the day you'll sew a simple project which will give you the skills to go on to using more complicated sewing patterns.

The class costs £50 to attend and includes material, light refreshments and lunch.
