Regular events

Knit and Natter

Join us in The Place to Eat on the last Wednesday of every month with your knitting/crocheting for a knit and natter. The group is completely free and runs from 5pm - 6.30pm.

Is your tablet giving you a headache?

Our Partners will be on hand to offer advice, practical support and guidance to all new tablet owners. There will be a question and answer session running from 11am - 1pm.

National Stationery Week, 31 March - 6 April

To celebrate National Stationery Week we'll be offering you the opportunity to try some of our finest pens. Rediscover the pleasure of putting pen to paper using only the best quality stationery.

 

We'll be offering a 10% discount on our 'brand of the day'. See which brands we'll be featuring in the list below:

Sock knitting

This workshop will demystify the process of sock knitting. You'll learn how to knit in the round, turn a heel, knit a gusset, shape a toe and read a pattern. You'll need to bring a ball of Double Knitting wool and 4mm double pointed sock pins.


Skill level: experienced knitters

Technology taster sessions with Age UK

We've teamed up with Age UK Sheffield to provide technology taster sessions. Simply visit the events room on the third floor to join a one to one drop in session (no need to book). You'll receive friendly advice on how to access the internet, perform simple tasks and we can also help you select the right equipment for you.

Lancôme masterclass

Lancôme’s Elite make-up artist, Fortunato Benavoli, is inviting you to join him in a skincare and make-up masterclass.  


You'll learn about the latest make-up trends, application techniques and some useful beauty tips. There will be refreshments and you'll receive a free gift with any 2 Lancôme products purchased on the evening.


The £20 booking fee is redeemable against purchases made on the night.

Understanding lace with Sarah Hatton

This workshop aims to help you understand how lace is formed. By the end of the class you'll have charted a simple piece of lace to help understand its construction, preparing you for correcting errors in a lace pattern and making or designing your own lace project.


If you'd like to attend please bring a pair of 3.25mm or 4mm needles, a pencil and basic knitting kit.


The class costs £50 to attend and includes materials, refreshments and lunch.

Stuart Hillard

Meet Stuart Hillard from the Great British Sewing Bee

Stuart will be demonstrating how to make a Clam Shell sewing kit holder. The pattern will be free and Stuart will show you how to hand sew the project using Rowan fabrics.

Quilt in a day

Quilt in a day is a great introduction to the world of quilting. During the day you'll learn how to make a small quilt approximately 90cm sq. We'll show you how to rotary cut and prepare fabric and then how to construct your quilt and edge it.


Although sewing experience is beneficial it's not essential as there'll be help and guidance throughout the day.


The day workshop costs £70 to attend. Fabric, light refreshments and lunch will be provided. To purchase your ticket, or for more information please visit the Haberdashery department.

Sew a vintage style apron with Rona Stean

Spend the day crafting a lovely vintage apron using a selection of Rowan fabrics. This workshop is aimed at sewers who are comfortable using a sewing machine and have a love of pretty fabrics.


The calss costs £50 to attend and includes materials, light refreshments and lunch.

Professional finishing techniques with Erica Pask

This course aims to help those knitters who want to give their knitted pieces a professional finish. Techniques covered include tension, using the correct cast-on for the project, shaping techniques, professional buttonholes, picking up stitches, short-row shaping and three-needle cast-off for shoulder seams, blocking and pressing and sewing up using mattress stitch.  


You'll need to prepare a little homework beforehand by knitting 2 squares using a DK weight yarn and 4mm needles, casting on 28 stitches and working in stocking stitch for 34 rows. Please also bring along size 3.25mm, 4mm and 4.5mm knitting needles, and a small sewing kit.


The class costs £50 to attend and includes light refreshments and lunch. For more information or to book your place, please visit the Haberdashery department.

In this workshop you'll cover the basics of using a sewing machine. Learn how to read, pin and cut out a simple sewing pattern. On the day you'll sew a simple project which will give you the skills to go on to using more complicated sewing patterns.
