Product information

Bridging the gap between high-end compacts and digital SLRs, Panasonic's DMC-FZ200 offers a level of control close to that of an SLR, but without the hassle of lens changing and complicated settings. Integrated optical image stabilisation and a sharp electronic viewfinder even take the guesswork out of composing show stopping shots.

Highlights:

  • The DMC-FZ200 is equipped with the world’s first 25-600mm LEICA DC lens featuring a full range f2.8 aperture. Capable of capturing 12.1 megapixels of detail, this precision-engineered lens gives you sharper images and less distortion in conditions ranging from wide-angle shots to macro close-ups.
  • The powerful 24x optical zoom can be used in photo and video recording. This is extendable to a stunning 48x using Pansonic’s ‘Intelligent Zoom’ technology. The lens also features nano surface coating to cut down on ghosts and flaring.
  • The High Sensitivity MOS sensor boasts excellent S/N ratio resulting in super clear image with less noise even during high sensitivity recording. Intelligent noise reduction and multi-process noise reduction combine to reduce noise and render dramatically clear images, even in low light.
  • The DMC-FZ200 has a 0.2-inch electronic viewfinder that features a 1,312,000-dot equivalent high resolution, 100% field of view. Thanks to the increased 30 - 60fps frame rate, screen freeze is reduced, making it suitable for shooting fast-moving subjects.
  • A vibrant 3-inch colour screen lets you review your pictures and compose perfect shots.
  • Power Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) creates sharper images whether you’re shooting or filming. Move into position or shoot off-the-cuff with confidence - the FZ200 always delivers rock solid results.
  • You can also record high quality 1920 x 1080 full HD movies in AVCHD for playback on your HD TV via the mini HDMI connection.

Q & As

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 25 reviewers.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Excellent lense, everything else hardwork The 24x zoom and stabilisation software is brilliant Screen and look through viewfinder for bright conditions is good Bought it because reviews said its manual close up focus is good but it's not. To make it 'work' you have to turn Auto of using the top dial, then move a switch on the lens. You then get a square in the viewfinder which when you press yet another button focusses in the square. So no better than every camera has by simply soft touching the shutter. Even worse there is a mostly surplus lever on the lens duplicating the zoom control which is next to the shutter. The only time you want this is when fiddling with the focus buttons, but it is turned off when manual focus is set! Has annoying habit of freezing when you press the shutter and refusing to respond (not saving or obviously doing anything). A lot of pretty useless functions and buttons added and I think the over engineering makes what would otherwise be a good camera difficult to use For pictures not needing a long lens or big enlargement my mobile phone with a pin head lens is just as good and focusses better at close distances 16 April 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by best pleased Delighted with the FZ200 Easy to use, handle and carry. The resulting photos are excellent and for me having the viewfinder is a must. 09 March 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by A sound buy This is a most useful product, considerably better than my existing Lumix and not as heavy as my SLR. The consistent aperture of 2.8 enables good quality photos in less than perfect light, and I was doubly surprised at the quality of the video recording; this is a definite bonus. It sits well in the hand with all the controls well placed. I particular like the additional EVf, so useful when the light is bright. 09 March 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by So far, so very good Having been a staunch DSLR man for many years, I dipped a toe in the water with a cheap, second hand bridge camera 3 years ago. This is the next step and I have to say I'm very pleased so far although summer will see much more use of the camera. It's a shame there's no sync socket for flash and that RAW is only available on certain settings, but these are really minor gripes - and are more than compensated by the macro focus and the f2.8 across-the-range lens. Time will tell; and I'm still waiting to hear from Panasonic if my claim for £30 from them (submitted 4 Jan) has even been accepted. 16 January 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Versatile, High Quality product I have been a keen photographer/videographer for many years, having used a range of kit - compact, bridge & SLR cameras & camcorders. Now 73, I'm no longer interested in carrying large quantities of kit around with me. The FZ200 answers all my requirements - excellent electronics, superb Leica lens, full manual control, f/2.8 aperture across the entire 25-600 zoom range, full HD video. This is my second FZ200 - no reason to look elsewhere! 12 January 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great camera Can be used as fully automatic and manual aperture/shutter speed etc. Very good optical quality of lens, with zoom . Not too heavy to carry about all the time. Very pleased with the photos. Recommended as a step up from a compact for those not wanting the weight and lenses (and cost) of a DSLR. 28 October 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Camera. After much deliberation , I finally bought an FZ200. Great camera . As previous reviewer stated , the supplied manual & CD advanced features manual are not great. You Tube has many guides by Graham Houghton on the use and features of the camera . He also does a free E book manual online . Totally invaluable . 08 July 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Good product bad service I bought this product full of hope that I would be able to use it at once. No handbook supplied for low computer intellect users. No connection cable supplied (and not available from John Lewis either) Certainly not a manufacturer interested in non technical customers. 07 June 2015
