Q & As

Panasonic NN-ST479S Sensor Microwave Oven, Stainless Steel 4.3 5 118 118
Does what we wanted This microwave oven has a stainless steel inner lining. Our previous one was some sort of enamel and had started to deteriorate. This oven has the facility to detect moisture after cooking and the fan operates to dry the oven after use so you don't get an oven which accumulates condensation. The timer and power options are easy to understand and the oven performs faultlessly. It appears to be of high quality and should function for many years to come. 20 January 2015
Great Product except for button labelling This product was bought [because of the stainless steel interior] for my dad. It seems a big improvement in quality over other microwaves he has had except for the labelling / writing on the panel for each of the buttons. It is too small to be read easily by an elderly person. Also, because of the stainless steel exterior the letters need to be larger and much darker to be clearly and easily distinguished. Great product otherwise. 14 January 2015
Superb Product Works extremely well. Heats very evenly. Auto sensor programs VERY good. Oven is a very good size. Click and Collect at our local Waitrose was hassle free and extremely convenient. I can't find fault with this product or the service, but I would expect nothing less from John Lewis 16 December 2014
Uneven hot spots This microwave is easy to use and spacious but seems to have a problem cooking things evenly. 16 December 2014
Stopped working after 7 months - told I will be without microwave until after Christmas I was fairly happy with this product until it died this week. I rang the number for the store given on the receipt and was passed from pillar to post through a succession of 4 other numbers (John Lewis technical advice, Panasonic technical advice, local Panasonic repairer who only dealt with non-warranty repairs, not-so-local Panasonic repairer that apparently did undertake warranty repairs). However, after ringing the fourth different number I decided it would be easier just to take it back to the store where I bought it, even though it meant a 50 mile round trip. I was rather hoping that it would immediately be replaced, being a relatively low cost item, but was told it would be sent away for repair and would be returned in approximately 28 days, which is not what I wanted to hear with Christmas approaching. I was also told that I would have to collect it and it would not be delivered to my home. I am therefore very disappointed not only with the product but also with the service from John Lewis. 12 December 2014
Great microwave. The microwave has useful features such as the auto sensor. It's quite high powered so its quick and easy to use. I would prefer the control panel to be smooth and not raised buttons to make keeping it clean easier. 10 December 2014
A good replacement Our previous Panasonic microwave finally died and, having given 15 + years of service, we opted for a similar Panasonic model. The sensor cook facility had proved extremely useful and the new model supplied this. Can't say it feels as substantial as it's predecessor but only time will tell! 04 November 2014
Very impressed with this model I have owned three Panasonic microwaves. The first (and most expensive) lasted 8 years, the least expensive, less than 3 months. Having decided you get what you pay for I chose this model. For me, it ticks all the right boxes: solidly made and well designed, stainless steel interior (easy cleaning) and the large turntable sits securely. Part of the interior walls are concave and therefore easy to remove hot items. I am really delighted with this model and love the new 'sensor' choices. No more trying to calculate for fresh or frozen vegetables - you put them in press sensor button - choose fresh or frozen - and that's it. I look forward to trying all the other sensor programmes. I also like the Panasonic feature in the higher end models that has the fan running after you've finished cooking as it dries out moisture left in the interior. I think this model is well worth the price and I would not hesitate to recommend it. 12 October 2014
