Panasonic SC-HTB20EB 2.1 Sound Bar
I purchased a Sony tv and the sound was appalling, very muffled. Bought this and took about 30 minutes to sort out and the difference is amazing, especially on films and music with sounds like doors shutting you never usually hear. The speech is also clear and everything is fine. Very small and neat bar with larger speaker which has wires out which you may want to hide. The price is amazing as well, £80 cheaper than Panasonic sell it for and also the return option from John Lewis if you don't like it. Any down points, just the remote which is small and you need to use it once set up as TV volume wont work on tv handset afterwards. Make sure you have an ARC HDMI slot on your tv and you can see this as its written under the HDMI connection point. If not you need an optical cable. No leads in the box so you will need one HDMI for the sound bar and one for your virgin box in my case and then one for all the extras you have like DVD etc. i was a bit dubious of these bars but believe me you wont believe the difference it makes.

We purchased a new Panasonic 37" TV last Christmas, but found the sound quality disappointing. As with most modern TVs, the speakers are on the back and the sound was clearer in the adjoining room than it was to the viewer. We enquired about a Soundbar in two retailers, but the assistants seemed reluctant to recommend a Soundbar at all. Perhaps they though we looked too old at 58 & 72 to appreciate one! Anyway, we recently decided to take the plunge and ordered one on line from John Lewis. The difference is far more subtle than I had anticipated. I was afraid that it would be too 'boomy' for my partner as he does not like loud music at all. While my REM DVD sounds brilliant with the volume up loud, it is equality effective on general TV programmes. The dialogue is clear, and somehow appears separated from the background music. We can hear perfectly, even with volume at lower levels than previously. There also seems to be less fluctuation between the volume of the programme and the adverts, which had meant we were constantly adjusting the volume. Reasonably easy to set up with two HDMI cables, one to the TV ARC and one to the Sky HD box. A recommended purchase, even for pensioners!!

What a difference!
After doing some research on sound bars and from finding we were having to turn the volume of the TV to almost max when watching films on DVD I bought this direct from JL website and had set it up to my Panasonic TV within 20 minutes of being delivered. Having said that Pansonic could have made the instructions a little clearer and included the HDMI cable. The difference to the sound quality is incredible, through the TV and DVD player. I am sure my husband will notice the difference when he watches, cricket, football and films.
I am hearing impaired and with this sound bar I can hear the television really clearly on a very low volume.
A great product.

Reasonably easy to set up - the only quibble being that you need extra cables which is not clear from the box. For my slightly older TV I needed both HDMI and optical cables.
Once it's set up however, WOW - the sound is amazing. Cannot believe what a difference it makes. Sound is richer, fuller, clearer - I've been able to turn the volume down a lot and every word of dialogue and every sound is still crystal clear.

I was not sure how this product would work as my Panasonic television sounded quite good but took the plunge and the difference is incredible - a much deeper and richer sound. The service was excellent and I collected the package from my local Waitrose the next day.

Impressive & flexible soundbar for the price
I bought this item to replace a hotchpotch of archaic h-fi separates, i.e. a Technics Dolby Pro-logic amp, Panasonic sub-woofer and 5 Sony surround speakers, my goal being to improve the sound quality of my Sony Bravia TV without breaking the bank and going to the trouble of purchasing loads of different pieces of kit . I'm please to say it does the job very well. It was easy to install and required no configuration whatsoever, working straight out of the box. It also integrates well with my TV using the ARC (Audio Channel Return) port and helpfully switches the TV speakers off automatically when switched on. The sound quality is surprisingly good for what it is, essentially 2 speakers and a sub-woofer, and it throws the sound around the room very effectively, producing clear dialogue and background sounds with a meaty base. The pseudo surround is pretty good considering it comes from 2 speakers, and is ideal if you don’t have a big room - I don’t suppose for one minute it is as good as a full 5.1 system, but for what it is, it is very impressive.
Although I am fairly technically minded, I’m not a hi-fi/home cinema buff, so for me this does exactly what I need for a good price (John Lewis even knocked £20 of the asking price as part of a price match deal with another high street store). So I would highly recommend this if you want to quickly and easily improve your TV sound and don’t want to mess around with separates. It is also nice to have the flexibility of separating the speakers or having them as a single sound bar, dependent on your needs. Highly recommended.

Simple and Room FIlling
This unit was purchased along with a Panasonic TV, setup was simple and it now works with the TV remote which controls the on/off (in line with the TV) and the volume. The sound is full and the sub-woofer adds depth to any viewing without being overpowering.
The 'bar' section comes with many fixings and mounts to enable positioning in a variety of ways.
A simple solution that adds fantastic sound to modern slim TV's.

This is needed for good sound if you purchase a flat tv as the speakers are not good enough in the tv.
