Panasonic TY-CC20W Skype Camera
Having just purchased a 2012 42" Panasonic (GT50) smart plasma, this seemed an obvious accessory with family in the USA. Reviews were mixed on Amazon but seemed to centre on the age of the TV and its compatibility. Pre-2012 TV's had difficulty as did previous versions of this camera. Well, it all worked splendidly right out of the box and the CC20W certainly looks the part. Not immediately obvious from the photos is the brushed metal surround that matches the bezel on the latest TV models - nor how small and neat it actually is. Setting it up is simplicity itself but it should be noted that the tilt and pan features need to be set up in the Skype settings before you actually Skype. Our daughter reports that the HD image and sound are first rate and from our perspective the Viera Connect interface is very user friendly. Yes it's expensive, but if style and function matter more to you than the lowest cost then this is the one to go for.

Good in parts.
Worked a treat out of the box but picture went blank shortly afterwards.
No amount of adjustment managed a good picture and controls were haphazzard. There is a reset button which should have returned it to factory settings but, when used it just returned a black screen. Other internet reviews confirm this and I should have researched before buying. If you buy one do not try to alter any settings. It is possible to connect to a laptop if you are computer savvy and set up in that way.
No grumbles about John Lewis - prompt delivery and a refund without fuss.

This skype camera sits neatly on the television. Fits on easily by the magnetic strip so you could remove it if you wanted to. I found it did not distract from the TV picture so it is left on all the time. Gives a great skype picture with our new Panasonic Viera TV.

Good little webcam
Sits nicely on the tv. mic a little thin as it is so far away. Picture is only as good as your internet speed. mine is about 4.5mbs so quality not hd. Good viewing angle if you have a group of you. Zoom works well. You have to use audio out on the tv if you use headphones,no optical out through usb.

Keeping in touch
Could not be simpler to install. Small and unobstrusive. Makes those calls to friends and family so much better.

Not withstanding compatability issues with older models, attach this camera to your SMART capable Panasonic TV and chat with friends and relatives over the internet in glorious 1080!
If you're using the higher end models such as the WT50 series, there's a trick you might not be aware of. That is the Panasonics are currently the only ones that can multi-task. You've got some mates round for the football, or the better half has some friends round to watch the latest tear-jerker, but you have friends that share the same interest but live elsewhere. Split screen Skyping means you can all watch the same programme and Skype at the same time so you all share the tears (football or romance!)

Not so much a review....................
more a warning! Unfortunately John Lewis forgot to note in their product description that this Skype camera currently only works with true 2012 Panasonic Connect TV's. Although Panasonic have announced a firmware upgrade for their 2010 and 2011 Connect TV's this will not be available till June 2012. I'm holding on to mine albeit that it will be several months before I can use it with my TX-P42UT30B (also from JL)! Otherwise excellent service from John Lewis and their 'Click and Collect' service was to their usual high standard.
