Q & As

Philips HD7688/50 Avance Filter Coffee Machine, Black 2.7 5 3 3
it's OK This machine looks nice and the handy fill feature is good. The coffee making process is quick and this I think is the fault with this machine. I have found I need to use more coffee to get a good taste. Not worth the money 27 April 2014
Bad design I picked this up just yesterday and already regret the purchase. The main advantage claimed for this over the less expensive conventional filter coffee machines is that the coffee filter/water unit can be removed for filling. In practice, I found that it always jammed when trying to either remove it or replace it. As a result, a piece of the flimsy plastic finally broke off. A couple of minor niggles: it produces much more steam than the filter machine it replaced (so wets the cupboard units above) and it looks a good deal uglier in reality than the photo suggests. 27 March 2014
Hot, hot, hot! Only picked this up yesterday, so early days for a review, but so far very pleased. Machine is very easy to use, especially if you want it tucked away underneath overhanging cupboards. Filter unit pulls completely out from machine and is also water reservoir, so you can fill it straight from tap. As you fill it a series of water level indicators also fill in sequence making it very easy to judge level. Coffee filter paper and coffee can then be added directly from above at sink or on work surface before you return filter into the machine. I find this a lot easier than previous machines with 'swing' mechanisms. Power on button is big and tactile, illuminates clearly but machine has useful two hour 'switch off' anyway. Re the review title, this machine has a whopping 1400W heater, so coffee comes out and stays very, very hot. Good coffee flavour too. So far, top marks in all areas for design, and hopefully will be reliable too. Handbook recommends monthly de-scale with white vinegar. 2-year guarantee from John Lewis is a really good back up as ever. 27 October 2013
