Pure Evoke F4
Great radio. Good sound quality and mix of features. A good buy.

Pure Evoke F4
This radio has quite good sound reproduction considering the size. It looks good. With the rechargeable batteries it works well as a portable radio. My main complaint is that it intermittently fails to connect to the internet - I always succeed in the end but sometime it is a bit of a faff! Otherwise I really like it.

I have had my pure Evoke F4 radio for just over 3 months.
The specification of the radio is top notch. I was impressed by the general feedback of this product on both the JL website and Amazon. Pure certainly design products carefully and produce radios that cleverly fill gaps in the market.
I am on my third Pure Evoke F4 radio now; the first one being returned as it kept resetting. The second as the DAB reception was far inferior to the first and would not pick up stations that my bedside DAB clock radio could easily receive. The third unit seemed to function well at least initially.
I live in a flat so my WiFi signal doesn't have to travel far or to different floors but the WiFi reception of the radio was fairly poor. My iPhone on the other hand can receive WiFi internet radio faultlessly (ironically on a Pure radio app) so i know it was not the WiFi router that was at fault. The final straw for me was that sometimes the radio would fail to pick up a signal even in the room containing the WiFi router and would only function again sometime later. Resetting the radio didn't seem to help this.
This is not a cheap radio and I couldn't accept a product which would not receive and play internet radio stations on demand. I felt that I had persevered enough and on balance had no confidence that mine was just an isolated case and a fourth unit wouldn't fail as well.
Overall top marks to John Lewis for customer service, somewhere near the other end of the scale to Pure.

Quality of the sound is excellent. However the tuning dial is very fiddly and jumps too readily - makes the set annoying to use. My Roberts Dab radio is much more robust.
So not good value for money considering this expensive set is supposed to be the state of the art DAB radio!

Purchased this model to replace a faithful Roberts Clock-radio. The Evoke F4 is a smart piano-black unit that is very easy to set up, allowing you listen to VHF, DAB and internet radio.
I did discover a fault! The Sleep timer - if set BEFORE midnight - would shut the radio down on the first strike of midnight! You then have to reset the timer for however more time you want. Reported the fault to both John Lewis.com and Pure, and they have been excellent. Replacement on its way!

Does not work with Pure Jongo speakers
I purchased this Evoke F4 along with a Jongo T4 in order to have multi-room streaming. However, with a software update of mid Dec 2013 (automatically applied whenyou first connect the product), Pure have disabled this function. You can no longer stream from the F4 to other Pure Jongo products.
Other than that, it is a good looking product and sounds nice - but having basically paid £60 more than competing products in order to get this multi-room capability, now they have removed it, I would look elsewhere.

One of the best in the Pure range of products.
We have 3 pure radios....and this is the best. It is expensive...but it is worth its price. We wanted it for its internet function.....to work with our Apple products....and to link and work with our wireless Pure Jongo speaker system....for this alone its worth 5 stars.
Its got bluetooth...and the functions of a DAB radio with FM..... I have checked these functions...but do not need to use them unless i am away from a wifi point!
Like all the Pure porducts buy the battery packs to make them fully portable...once again worth the extra money.
All the functions...and there are many...work well....and also the product looks Good!

Good sound, fully featured radio, read on...
We were looking for a sound system for our kitchen that would allow us to listen to DAB radio and be able to play back our music collection stored on a NAS, mobile phones and tablets.
This radio works on all accounts. It sounds good for the size with a nice clear sound. Obviously the size limits bass but it's fine for a kitchen, volume levels are more than adequate. The radio linked easily to our home Wi-Fi but you need to check that you have good signal strength, not an issue for us. You can then use the radio controls to listen to the radio or browse through any DLNA compliant music server on your network. This works fine but you can also use any uPnP client on your tablet or phone to play music as well, Pure have their own App but you don't have to use it for basic play back.
I didn't use the Pure Connect or any Internet base radio stations. If you have a guest they can simply link their device via Bluetooth to playback their music.
The product is also compatible with the Pure Jongo range, if you don't think you'll need this then check out the standard evoke flow.
All in all a great product and looks really nice too. I would have given it 5* but I think the price is a little steep, somewhere around £150 would be a fairer price.
