The Evoke F4 has both quality sound and features. Apart from DAB and internet radio, the ability to record either instantly or programmed is extremely useful. Along with a two year warranty, you can't go wrong.

Rated 5 out of 5 by alphabetagaga finally a truly portable internet radio that is a joy to use
i have been on the lookout for a portable internet radio that met all my needs and i think finally, the f4 is the one. it offers everything i need and really is a joy to use. having tried many others from leading brands over the last few years, i had either returned them for refunds or sold them on. simple reason was - each of them seemed to be lacking in a single feature or features that the others had and vice versa, so there wasn't a single unit out there that gave me everything i wanted.
so why is the f4 the 'overall' package?
+ compact in size with a solid build quality
+ rechargeable battery (available separately) ensures this can be used as a true portable radio
+ display can be set to turn off completely after 7 seconds. this is a huge feature for me. this applies both while the radio is in use and also while the radio is in standby. something no other radio i tried offered. to me this is essential if you want to use as a bedside radio.
+ superb clean and 'pure' sound. prefect both for voice and music broadcasts
+ volume increments. there are enough 'steps' up and down to ensure you can get the volume just right and as low or high as you need.
+ great reception on each available mode. i'm not experienceing any dropouts on media streaming that i got on the original evoke flow. the software on the f4 has been improved and is more responsive in this area.
a couple of things that could be better but were just not big enough deal breakers for me
- no dedicated sleep button
- no dedicated preset buttons

Rated 3 out of 5 by Marc0000 Nice radio, but it failed within the year
When it worked, this radio had a very good tone and a wide variety of channels. Sadly, after 10 months its display started to break up and then in month 11 it failed altogether. Also, the battery pack has never lasted as long as it was meant to, and by 9 months it would not last for a day. Disappointing.

Bought some 14 months ago, my Pure developed an electrical fault, probably a loose mains connection. As it was within the two year guarantee I took it to John Lewis for repair and was somewhat startled, extremely pleasantly so, when it was replaced on the spot by a new unit covered by a new three year guarantee!
As many others have said, this is a very attractive radio. However, it needs frequent cleaning because its glossy surface quickly picks up finger marks.
For its size the sound quality is very good, at least for me who suffers from tinnitus.
I mainly use it as an internet radio. Waking from sleep mode, when running off the mains, it takes 6 to 8 seconds to connect to a station; and about 30” when running off its battery. It’s a bit of a faff to search for a particular station by turning and pressing a dial to select each letter, but once stored into favourites it’s easy to use, as are the other options.
What is a pain however is that server problems can cause service interruptions and they’re not that infrequent. I know the problem is with the Pure server, because meantime my Roberts internet radio is working fine. It has to be said however that the Roberts suffers from the same problem albeit at different times.
A really annoying problem is that when using the BBC Listen Again option, the programme listened to often stops part way, with no facility to resume.
It would also be nice, if technically feasible, to have shuffle and artist selection options when streaming playlists from the pc.
Overall, I'm pleased with the unit. Compact and truly portable with a good sound, easy to use and giving access to the world’s internet radios.

This radio has quite good sound reproduction considering the size. It looks good. With the rechargeable batteries it works well as a portable radio. My main complaint is that it intermittently fails to connect to the internet - I always succeed in the end but sometime it is a bit of a faff! Otherwise I really like it.

I have had my pure Evoke F4 radio for just over 3 months.
The specification of the radio is top notch. I was impressed by the general feedback of this product on both the JL website and Amazon. Pure certainly design products carefully and produce radios that cleverly fill gaps in the market.
I am on my third Pure Evoke F4 radio now; the first one being returned as it kept resetting. The second as the DAB reception was far inferior to the first and would not pick up stations that my bedside DAB clock radio could easily receive. The third unit seemed to function well at least initially.
I live in a flat so my WiFi signal doesn't have to travel far or to different floors but the WiFi reception of the radio was fairly poor. My iPhone on the other hand can receive WiFi internet radio faultlessly (ironically on a Pure radio app) so i know it was not the WiFi router that was at fault. The final straw for me was that sometimes the radio would fail to pick up a signal even in the room containing the WiFi router and would only function again sometime later. Resetting the radio didn't seem to help this.
This is not a cheap radio and I couldn't accept a product which would not receive and play internet radio stations on demand. I felt that I had persevered enough and on balance had no confidence that mine was just an isolated case and a fourth unit wouldn't fail as well.
Overall top marks to John Lewis for customer service, somewhere near the other end of the scale to Pure.

Quality of the sound is excellent. However the tuning dial is very fiddly and jumps too readily - makes the set annoying to use. My Roberts Dab radio is much more robust.
So not good value for money considering this expensive set is supposed to be the state of the art DAB radio!
