Q & As

Pure One Elite II DAB Digital Radio 4.5 5 11 11
Pure One Elite II DAB Digital Radio This purchase was to replace an ageing Roberts Classic FM/AM radio - for which the mains socket had given up the ghost. Naturally I had the idea of replacing one Roberts with another until I listened to the PURE ONE ELITE II. It has a lovely, clear sound, easy to set up the rechargeable battery pack is also a bonus which is available separately. All in all I can say that this is a really good buy and you will not be disappointed 24 August 2014
Pure One Elite II DAB Digital Radio Bought a black one of these and it is superb. Easy to use and set up, good quality sound output. Robust and feels sturdy. Could perhaps benefit from an additional handle, but finger grips do the job - just. I combined it with the rechargeable battery pack. For the price I would say a good buy. 20 May 2014
Very Good Radio I wanted this for the bedroom as i particularly like listening to Radio 4 extra. Reception is superb, and i don't need to extend the aeriel. Very easy to use, good sound quality, though can sound slightly muffled at times, but not enough to worry about. Overall, very good radio, and good value. 17 April 2014
Great portable sound I wanted a DAB radio with an AUX in socket to plug in an iPOD and was surprised at how few have this feature. I also wanted it to be rechargeable so that I could use it without plugging in or spending loads on batteries. Good stereo sound was also a priority, but I didn't want to spend too much. From looking at the reviews, it looked like the Roberts Duologic fitted the bill so I went along to the local JL to get one, but thought I'd audition what else was available - I'm so glad I did. The very helpful assistant plugged in the Roberts and the PURE. The Roberts didn't get much signal in the store and when it finally did pick up a station the sound was awful. The PURE on the other hand tuned in straight away and the sound was vastly superior. It was a bit more expensive and the chargepack is a bit pricey. I've now been using this for a few months and am not disappointed. The sound is really good for a unit of this size and it never fails to pick up a good signal. The rechargeable battery lasts for ages between charges. I've not used the listen later feature much (it's easier to use iPlayer). The rest of the controls are really easy to use. If stereo is not important, go for the smaller and cheaper mono version, but if you can stretch your budget by a few quid you will not be disappointed by the difference an extra speaker makes. I got it in black not white though and it looks nice & discrete. 16 March 2014
Good But Roberts Duologic Is Better I bought this based on the glowing reviews. I already own a Roberts Duologic I'm happy with. This was for the bedroom and has a few more functions that the Roberts doesn't have, most notably an alarm - I thought it would be nice to be woken up by the radio rather than my mobile! The sound is pretty good too. However I thing the Roberts just wins on clarity of sound. With this model you have to buy a specific Pure chargepak which is expensive. With the Roberts you buy standard re-chargeable batteries which are much cheaper and can be used in other things. All in all a decent radio but as you've gathered I prefer the Roberts Duologic which can also be purchased from John Lewis. 04 March 2014
Not quite so happy! Don't choose this radio for the Listen Later feature! It's not possible to make instantaneous recordings, the controls are quite fiddly, with no confirmation that it has been activated, and it's not possible to save things permanently. Other grumbles..Treble tone control not that good, so it's not really sharp enough for the over sixties, and the snooze button is unduly complicated, so wouldn't work for me as a bedside radio. Overall, a bit expensive for what it is. 26 February 2014
Great portable radio Great buy, really clear sounds and has some great features. We already have an older model that is still in mint condition. However i bought this so we could upgrade and my husband can use the older one for work. 21 January 2014
Digital radio Having heard the radio in store (it sounded good) I decided to buy one. I was concerned that it might not function properly in the position I wanted to place it, because another DAB radio we have(about 4 years old now) couldn't ever seem to get a decent signal there (although it works ok in other places in the house). Anyway, the Pure One Elite II functions well. Like any complex device it needs you to sit down with the manual and find out how to use it to get the best results. It has features that I probably won't use, but the sound is good with treble and bass control, and stereo. 14 January 2014
