Queensberry Hunt for John Lewis White Bone China Plates, Set of 4
Poor quality compared to first set purchased
Some years ago I purchased a set of John Lewis white bone china (in the white packaging) which I am extremely happy with. I have chipped a couple of plates so decided to top up my stock and bought packs of 4 30cm plates, 18.5 cm plates and dessert bowls.
These new ones are under the Queensbury Hunt label.
When I unpacked them they are very poor quality. The glaze on the rims is patchy and on one of the bowls the glaze has run down the outside creating bulges.
Fortunately I live near the shop where I purchased them, so I returned and by sorting through the available stock managed to put together an acceptable set. I noticed that many pieces had poor quality glazes.
I can only suggest that John Lewis returns to its original manufacturer and gets rid of Queensbury Hunt.

Good but Wedgwood better
Bought these to replace wonderful 40 year old Royal Doulton patterned dinner plates that with daily use are finally too scratched ,faded and shabby. Been using new plates daily for a month. Nice plain white and very importantly light and strong which is why bone china is so much better than anything else. However 2 things annoyed me-firstly at 28cm they do not easily fit into my Miele dishwasher and can only fit in a certain position to avoid the spray arm. Secondly all the details regarding weight and dimensions of the plates were on a narrow side of the packaging box. Why not in a more prominent place for such important information when you are making a purchase? Not made in the UK (Indonesia I think),Overall wish I had paid extra and bought more of my lovely British made Wedgwood 27 cm dinner plates.

Just not good enough
I bought a set of 4 dinner plates and 4 cereal bowls. When I laid the plates out next to each other it was very clear they were all a slightly different shape. One was really quite a bit deeper than the others and one was very much flatter. There was also 2 shades of whiteness across the 4 plates. They were quite thick china and certainly didn't have a 'fine china' feel.
The cereal bowls were tiny, more like something you would use for dips. Although it had given their diameter on the web site it didn't explain just how shallow they were. My 8 year old son couldn't have used them! I'm usually a big fan of John Lewis but I've sent the whole lot back.

Fine but nothing special
These are fine, nothing special at the price but "Good" about sums them up. The finish could be better at this price point.

Fantastic for daily use
My wife and I recently ordered an entire set of Queensbury Hunt bone china and asked John Lewis to ship it out to Denmark for our usage there.
The set included a large number of white bone china plates available in the set of 4.
We ordered the 28cm and the smaller size, 18.5cm.
Both plates will match with any pre-existing service you may have and they fit nicely into any possible storage space. The quality of the plates are very high and what amazes us is that it is durable yet extremely light. It is a great white tone, and cleans very well after some messy foods like curries. We have run the plates through our dishwasher a few times now and they fit well into a standard size dishwasher – without any adjustment of the dishwasher tray.
18.5cm – We ordered these online without seeing them and we could have liked them to be a little bigger. They are usable, but the design means you only use the inner portion of the plate which can basically hold one slice of toast. We have adapted to use them now and we do use them daily so there is no harm done whatsoever.
28cm – It’s similar to the above, the useable size is a little smaller due to the outer rim, but this plate is comparable to our old service. We actually ordered it as 28cm’s so we can fit it into our special occasion service and it works like a charm! In relation to the 28cm plates, the 18.5cm plates make a perfectly sized side dish.
On delivery the one compliant I do have is that the driver left the entire set in our driveway (which is somewhat normal in Denmark) however they did not allow us to sign for the package nor ring the door bell which is a little strange. However it must be noted that the service is packed well and we did not find any damage due to shipment. All in all it is a very price competitive service so we cannot complain.
If you do select it, I don’t think you will be disappointed – we certainly are not and we use this as an everyday family service.

Really beautiful product
these plates are a really good quality product, they are bone china very fine yet strong , dishwasher proof and family proof, food looks wounderful on white china and means you can use combination of colours to dress the table. I am very pleased and the service at John Lewis is above reproach

Versatile and Bone China
Having already purchased cereal bowls in the JL range we also added the dinner plates to complete our every day china. In reality, because all our china is white, we are able to mix and match our best with every day china if entertaining large family/friend groups. In fact the JL range of white china was definitely a more economic purchase than other stores had available at that time and it is bone china.
