Quirky is a New York based product development company that brings two brand new consumer products to market each week through its online collaborative platform. Quirky’s community of 400,000 members weigh in on every aspect of product development from sketch to store, while its in-house expert design team works with the community throughout the entire development process. Quirky manufactures and sells its products worldwide and shares its revenue with the influencers who helped bring each product to life. Since its launch in 2009, quirky has collaboratively developed hundreds of new products. Quirky’s 26 year-old Founder, Ben Kaufman is a pioneer in open-source collaborative development and speaks all over the world on design, co-creation and social product development. Quirky and Ben Kaufman are redefining the way people think about product development.
Stephen Stewart, a solicitor originally from Belfast, invented Cordies. He came up with the idea after growing frustrated with unplugged cables falling behind his desk. Once the Quirky community selected his idea, he was involved with everything from the naming process, tag lines and design phases to presales. As someone who has come up with ideas for inventions his whole life, Stephen feels that Quirky enabled him to pass the high emotional and financial barriers involved in product development: “Quirky gives people like me the power to get ideas out of their heads and into reality.”
