Q & As

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 15 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very good for the price I didn't expect much for the price but was pleasantly surprised by it. Don't expect great booming sound though. As a kitchen radio it's ideal for our needs and the display is excellent. 04 August 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Superb Quality Product This is a brilliant compact portable DAB radio with good reception and excellent sound quality from the speaker. It is reasonably light weight and works well off batteries as well as mains. It is also easy to use with a good, easy to understand user-manual. 28 July 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by JUST OK I bought this for my daughter for her room. Attractive to look at but slightly tinny sound. I use a PURE myself and the difference was very noticeable. Wouldn't buy again. 07 July 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Crystal clear sound Delighted with my little digital radio. Crystal clear sound, easy to use controls, neat size for kitchen where I wanted to use it. Very good value for money. 16 June 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Brilliant I am delighted with the Roberts Radio, it was easy to set up and has an excellent tone, a really successful purchase- delighted. 06 May 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Good radio, poor sound I bought this radio to replace an Intempo that died late last year after many years of service. I use it in the kitchen and mainly use the presets - limited to three channels. The sound quality is not as clear as the Intempo, and it vibrates when the volume is increased. I bought Roberts for the name, but reading around the various suppliers, the quality is no longer there. 09 March 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Superb radio (as all Roberts are) but beware using DAB radios with batteries! After buying this DAB radio to use with batteries in a bathroom I learnt that DAB radios (& most need six batteries!) eat up batteries & thus cost a fortune to run on batteries! This is a superb radio worked on the mains but, as I've said,,not to be used with batteries. 18 February 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good value for the price I am content with the Classic DAB2 radio, on the basis of only a short period of ownership. Others have grumbled about the counter-intuitive manual controls. One does have to read the instruction booklet carefully before tuning the machine to ones favourite stations. The ability to set pre-set buttons is one I like well. I might have liked one or two more preset buttons. DAB reception is good in my rural area; FM signal strength is not so good, when using only the telescopic aerial. I find that my set runs fine on rechargeable AA batteries, and I have had it running for about 12 hours on six 2500 mA.Hr rechargeables, with some life left in the batteries at the end. After 12 hours the six batteries still measured 7.5 volts in series: the same as the rated output of the mains adapter unit. I am not yet sure if one needs to have batteries fitted in order to preserve tuning and other preferences. Sound quality is OK by the standards of a small radio. One can use headphones (mono audio only, not stereo, even though the headphones may have a stereo plug). Or one can connect the 3.5 mm headphone outlet to the inlet of a "hi-fi" audio amplifier with good speakers, to listen to music in mono. This is easy to do when running the Classic DAB2 on batteries, but if one is connecting to a mains-powered audio system one would expect to be running the radio with its mains adapter. Unfortunately, this resulted in a horrendous mains-frequency buzz in my case, that drowned out the music. I found that this could be cured by bodging a good earthing connection between the outer (negative) ring of the mains adapter connector, to an earthing point on the audio amplifier. Then the mains hum disappeared and the sound quality was much better than that from the Roberts radio own small loudspeaker. This Roberts radio fulfils my needs very well. I repeat that it has many subtle functions built into it. and it is essential to read carefully and understand the manual when setting it up. 28 January 2015
