Q & As

ROBERTS DreamTime 2 DAB/FM Digital Clock Radio 2.4 5 13 13
Beware It isn't possible to set the volume on the radio alarm. It goes off quietly and then rises in volume until it reaches a predetermined level, which I found far too loud. You can change the volume back to where you want it, but it isn't that easy in the dark with the indistinguishable flat buttons. 04 October 2013
Good value for money! I really like this product. The DAB sound is so much better than my old one, and I love the fact that the display can be progressively dimmed to nothing. The tile controls were difficult at first but | have learned where each control is and it can be switched on and pre-set stations changed in the dark. I am very happy with it and it is good value for money. 02 October 2013
Not Roberts Best Offering Having enjoyed 2 previous Roberts radios, the DreamTime2 is a little disappointing. The DAB reception is good and clear and tuning is simplicity itself However, the unit suffers from very poor sound reproduction through its 2 tinny speakers. There is also an audible electronic hiss from the speakers and especially when using earphones at low volumes. The unit also lacks any substance and weight to keep it from sliding across the bedside table. Surprisingly for an alarm clock, the large flat plastic buttons have no tactile feedback for finding the right one to switch on or change volume/stations in the dark and eyes half shut. On the plus side, the display dimmer levels are good for a bedside radio although the orange LED display looks a little dated. 24 August 2013
Average Radio Good sound quality for bedside radio and clock is a good brightness for in the bedroom, however two bad points: 1. The alarm volume on radio is far too loud for a bedroom and its not possible to change this. I contacted Roberts but it is a 'feature' and because the volume scales up they said it shouldn't be a problem for me. 2. The buttons are all completely flat on the top of the radio, which ordinarily would be fine, but when I have to quickly change the volume each morning when it comes on extremely loud I often press the wrong button and turn the radio to FM or cancel the alarm etc. 14 May 2013
Decent Purchase I am pleased with the sound quality of this reasonably priced DAB radio. It was very easy to set up and the instruction booklet explains all the different functions. I can see what other reviewers mean about the flat buttons not being easily identifiable in the dark, but I have purchased this primarily as a radio alarm and it suits my purpose more than adequately. Being able to set one alarm time for weekdays and another for weekends is useful and so is being able to adjust the dimmer on the display so that it is not too bright at night. 31 March 2013
Disappointing - not easy to operate in the dark I have had several Roberts radios and looked to replace the excellent Roberts CR950 radio alarm I have had for many years with a DAB alternative. My wife chose the DreamTime as a Christmas present. If I can find the receipt it will be going back. In my case the reception and sound of DAB channels is very good. However the user interface via the top panel of buttons is very poor in its design, feel and use. It is because of this usability issue that I will look to change it. I looked to use it with a headphone during the night as I like to switch between a couple of channels if I am awake for any period. This is very difficult to do and the buttons make a cheap sounding "pling" noise when pressed. If you get it wrong you have to make more presses to try and correct what has been selected. Thus disturbing my wife. Roberts have had good design ideas which I have experienced with the other products I have had from them. This product is poor in feel and in the design of the user interface. Very disappointing. 01 January 2013
Very disappointed DAB reception was almost non-existent. One station, which if the cheap wire aerial moved was lost. FM reception was poor - couldn't even get Radio's 1,2 3 and 4. Obvious location for this radio is next to the bed but that gave the worst results. Tried in other locations around the house and it was little better. Previous FM clock/radio worked well in this location. Will be returning this immediately after Christmas. 25 December 2012
Hugely Disappointing This model was offered by John Lewis as a replacement for my original model Dreamtime Clock Radio, which was faulty, though a vastly superior product to the Dreamtime 2.. It is close to being useless for its intended purpose. The 13 push buttons are in a flat matrix with no separation between them (picture a tiled floor). They are perfectly smooth with nothing to distinguish one from the other - except for tiny, indistinct lettering, which can be read only in bright light. It is all too easy to find yourself pressing the wrong buttons, resulting in the need to put on the bedroom light to sort out the confusion. My solution has been to stick blobs of blue tack on some strategic buttons, which does help but which should not be necessary on a Roberts product. The designer of this radio cannot possibly have had its intended purpose in mind when specifying the layout of the controls. I am very disappointed. 31 October 2012
