Q & As

ROBERTS RecordR DAB Digital Radio, White 3.4 5 8 8
Terrible SD menu system. I have numerous DAB radios and wanted something I could record from. I saw this unit and bought it. What a mistake. You have to wonder who thought and still thinks that the SD card menus and the method of moving around is actually workable. Its the most terrible system that I have ever used. Its total counter intuitive. I eventually found my way around the clunky menu system but as others have reported, select rewind and it often takes you all the way back to the start. All it needed was a few additional buttons instead of multiuse buttons. Its going back for a refund, I simply hate the thing. 31 July 2014
Really Good Product This DAB radio looks good, has a nice sound and it is great that you are able to record radio programmes to listen to at a convenient time. I would recommend this product as good value. 29 July 2014
Perfect Very pleased indeed with this radio which I've had, with no problems, for over a year. Excellent sound quality and reception. Easy-to-follow manual, simple to use. Record feature is perfectly straightforward and handy - I can transfer the SD card straight to the SD slot in my car and listen to my recordings. It is the easily the best recording radio I have owned. 14 July 2014
Delighted Very pleased with the radio - it does everything I needed and in a very easy to follow way. Clearly this item has been updated to address the shortcomings of the previous model - so programmes CAN be deleted on the radio. The radio recording is easy enough = for anyone able to read a manual and, after a couple of times using it, the manual can be dispensed with. There are a variety of ways of recording using the timer so no problem going on holiday and 2 additional recording modes - instant and paused. The sound quality is superior - and I've heard a few poor ones in my time! All the file maintenance can be done on the radio = although I prefer to rename programmes (and merge and split files) on a laptop with a card reader - but its certainly not essential - just a handy option. So very pleased and have recommended to those sad friends who like to record programmes, 19 February 2014
Terrible sound Shockingly poor sound from this radio. Pleased to find that the return was as easy as the Click & Collect. 09 February 2014
You CAN delete files on the radio . . . Had seen a lot of comments on how you need to put the SD card in to computer to delete files. When I opened the instructions, out popped Addendum 1A explaining how to delete files on the radio - tried it and worked fine for me. Only improvement I would suggest is that John Lewis should sell me an SD card when I go to checkout. 17 May 2013
What a disappointment ! Because I have always found Roberts's radios the best, and I have their discontinued RD41 recording radio, I recomended Roberts latest recording radio to a friend. My RD41 is so simple to use. It records easily, intuitively; is easy to program future recordings, and uses EPG programme listing, similar to television recorders. The latest Roberts R could not be more different. The screen is small and awkwardly placed at the front, needing you to tilt the radio, or perch in front of it, for programming. If you want to record a later programme, you have to be robot quick to put in each of the time details or the radio returns to the start point. During programming, the panel light quickly turns off leaving an almost dark screen to continue using. There is no program listing system (EPG), so the complete date and times need to be included, which is time consuming and very fiddly. Very easy to make mistakes, meaning starting again. You can only record 4 programmes, so no long holidays! What do you do if you have no computer to delete spent programmes? To easily use the recording function, you need to be quick, very comfortable with pressing small buttons, and scrolling; and have access to a computer. A plus for this radio? The sound and signal pickup is good. After a fashion, it does record radio programmes, which a lot of people prefer to using an ipod or 'Listen Again' on a computer. Lets hope that Roberts goes back to making recording radios of the superb quality of their discontinued RD41. 07 March 2012
Quality product I bought this unit to replace an old am/fm radio and cassette player which I keep by my bed connected to an earpiece as I suffer with tinnitus and find listening to radio at night helps me get to sleep. The sound quality is excellent whether listening through earpiece or speakers. The volume and tone controls are very smooth in operation. I like the ability to have preset buttons so I can easily find my favourite stations. The display is clear and can be dimmed so it does not light up the bedroom at night. Having the record feature is very handy the only minus point is recordings have to be deleted with the use of a computer. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase and I am enjoying using it. 16 February 2012
