This exquisite DAB radio from Ruark Audio arrives in a gorgeous compact design with a rich walnut veneer finish. It features a 3.5” custom high-fidelity drive unit for excellent sound quality and it’s simple to use thanks to its intuitive ‘Rotodial’ control system. There’s also a facility to adjust tone - plus a loudness option - so you can set the sound to suit your own taste. DAB text and alarm information is clearly displayed on the black and white LCD.

Dual alarms allow for once, daily, weekday and weekend settings. Both alarms (radio or buzzer) can be set to the volume required, depending on whether you’re a light or heavy sleeper. Also included is an adjustable sleep timer and a snooze function.

The R1’s front panel features a headphone socket and a line input to connect to your MP3 player or any other audio device. And on the rear panel there’s a pair of high quality gold plated phono outputs for recording or playback through an audio system.

Quality Dab/Dab+ radio with a warm rich sound The radio has a very good rich sound. I find it a little bass heavy at its default ‘Normal’ setting, but turning the bass down to ‘0’ remedy’s that leaving a detailed, warm, rich sound from what is a fairly small box. The R1 MkII is a nicely finished Dab+ ready radio which looks and feels a quality unit. Due to the sound quality I find that I am using the radio more than I anticipated so I have added the battery pack and case to add portability available separately at additional expense. 20 October 2012

great sound from a little box A nicely finished DAB radio with a great sound and a clear display. Only 5 programmable stations though, but a good search facility. Would recommend for the kitchen where space might be tight. 04 October 2012

Don't dither. It's a no brainer! After looking endlessly for the "perfect" clock radio, I went for this and I have not been disappointed. Yes, it's expensive but it is a beautiful piece, very easy to set up and completely intuitive so you are not reaching for the manual every five minutes. Certain reviews comment that the light from the display is bright for a clock radio but I haven't found this. 14 September 2012

radio heaven Bought this in May to use as our bedside radio/alarm clock. It is a lovely machine in all respects, looks, ease of use, sound et al. We take it away with us in the caravan and it is far better than the built-in radio. 29 July 2012

Neat radio with 'full size' sound. Bought this as a kitchen radio and thought I'd get something decent as I tend to listen to radio a lot while cooking etc. The Ruark has a surprisingly big sound with lots of bass, which is quite different to cheaper radios where the sound can be very 'middly'. DAB reception is very good, so I don't see any reason to use FM. The Walnut finish and understated looks blend very well in an old cottage but I can imagine would sit well in a modern interior too. 07 June 2012

Great Radio, but not perfect as radio alarm. Superb radio. Great sound. I primarily bought this as a radio alarm. Here it falls a little short. Despite having an auto dimming facility it simply doesn't dim enough meaning at night I can see a shadow of the pendant light cast on the ceiling and my partner normally turns it away so it's not facing her, meaning neither of us can see the clock apart from it's glow! Sad really as solving this could be quite simple. 02 May 2012
