Sage by Heston Blumenthal the Smart Kettle

Product information

The Smart Kettle from Sage by Heston Blumenthal exudes elegance, high quality design and innovation.

This smart kettle will revolutinise the way you drink tea. To extract the most delicate flavours, different teas need to be steeped at different temperatures and this kettle lets you choose, for the perfect brew. Five pre-programmed temperature buttons tell you which temperature to select for which type of tea. It heats to the selected temperature, turns itself off, and if selected, will even keep warm for 20 minutes after heating.

The smart kettle features an ample 1.7L cord free jug. A push button and soft opening lid prevents hot water splatter for peace of mind. A quiet boil element and a scale filter tops off this model.

Q & As

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 48 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect hot drinks I first saw this type of kettle in the US, so have been delighted with my purchase. No more bitter green tea 09 February 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Really useful product When my bright red, funky kettle packed up I decided to go for usefulness and quality over eye catching style. This kettle is just that. Now I can enjoy instant hot chocolate drinks without the lumps and green tea without the bitter taste. 09 February 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by matches my toaster. Really like our new kettle, especially the setting for coffee. 22 December 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Premature failure causing household RCD to trip My Sage Smart kettle boiled water merrily for about nine months and was in the process of heating water until, one day, without warning, a loud pop was heard followed by a flash of what seemed a yellowish blue light coming from the corner where the on/off button is located and the aroma of electrical burning. Although the apparent short circuit failed to blow the fuse in the plug it did trip the mains circuit RCD. I reset the RCD trip and, again, the kettle tripped the circuit breaker. I contacted Sage customer services who, to their credit, arranged for a replacement to be sent and the faulty one to be collected, both on the same day. So, although a single star rating for the kettle a big five to Sage. I've not received an engineers report as to what might have caused the kettle's demise, nor do I expect to. However, this kettle produces more steam than other kettles I've used because of a lengthy delay before the auto-off switch becomes activated. I suspect, therefore, the excessive amount of produced steam then condensed and fell back onto the horizontal control panel where the water found its way past the membranes on the selector button. For this reason I'll never again purchase a kettle where the controls are positioned horizontally rather than vertically on the kettle itself. 14 December 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Brilliant for tea lovers I love tea and I currently have seven different types to choose from. Recently I learned how teas taste best when brewed at different temperatures. This kettle allows you to tailor your hot water to your choice of tea just by pressing one of the buttons on the stand. It also has a setting for coffee. I've been using it for a month now and have really noticed an improvement in my enjoyment of both tea and coffee. 08 December 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great kettle, but lacks the lower(<80°C) temp range for speciality tea This is a solidly built kettle which has every function you will need. And by "solid build", I really mean it, truly brushed stainless and not some painted-on plastic ones. And the soft touch lid is actually something, steam was never a problem but it did prevents water splitting. Easily recognisable white/red light and peep sound. Handle is very ergonomic and the spout is of great flow control. If you have the money or really care about making tea, this is probably for you. My only complain of this kettle is, although the 5°C step is much appreciated, I would wish it could replace the 80°C setting with a 60°C one, as some speciality green tea/ white tea (especially gyokuro) actually needs such low temperature, whereas I don't think any tea specifically requires 80°C. Also when you're not boiling(straight to 100°C), it will boil in 2/3 steps, which I guess is for more precise temp control(it does wait for a few sec after boiling to beep as well which is good). But sometimes the pause is just too long and seems slightly unnecessary(such pause was not in my previous Bosch kettle), and when compared with it super-fast normal boiling speed. 04 November 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Persistent fault with shut-off I purchased this Sage kettle because it had a vairable temperature setting - It tend to drink coffee from a cafetiere, so it's useful having a 95C setting. It also seemed like a 'premium' product so I expected good quality. However, I'm just about to take the second one back in the space of a year as, like has been seen by other reviewers, it just shuts off and refuses to heat. The first did this within a month, the current one took several months before it developed the same fault. After becoming increasingly temperamental over the last few weeks, it now won't work at all. And I only use it once or twice a day. I'll be getting a different product in replacement. 02 November 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good kettle but over-priced It looks nice, works well, but is a bit on the expensive side. The selectable temperatures are more of a gimmick than a real benefit 16 September 2015
