Special offer

Product information

The Smart Scoop™ Ice Cream Maker from Sage by Heston Blumenthal is the first ice cream maker that automatically senses the hardness of the mixture based on your selection, and keeps it ready until it’s time to serve. Perfect for lazy summer days.

There are 12 hardness settings to choose from so you can choose from sorbet, frozen yogurt, gelato and ice cream. Either use the pre-set automatic programs, or set it to manual for ultimate control. A pre-cool function gives the ice cream a head start at minus 30°C so it’s at your preferred consistency as and when you want it. A generous 1L bowl allows you to make a big enough batch for friends and family. It can even play an ice cream van tune when it’s ready! A bowl, paddle and cleaning brush are included.

Q & As

Sage by Heston Blumenthal the Smart Scoop™ Ice Cream Maker, Silver 4.6 5 5 5
Impressive machine but there are niggles. We’ve used our Smart Scoop twice now. We settled on this ice cream maker because of its robust, quality built. I recommend it but there are niggles with the trimmings around it rather than with the machine itself because it is impressive. This is a heavy machine (a good thing in my eyes), make sure you have a permanent ‘home’ for it because you will not be moving it around. I see someone said it is quiet . . . my wife asked compared to what and I’m also curious. Ours is most definitely not quiet but it is an acceptable level of noise (away in the kitchen). It is the gears turning the tub that we can hear grinding away. No sample recipes even though it states clearly in the booklet ”Ice cream recipes stated in this instruction booklet . . . “, “All mixtures in this instruction booklet . . . “ and “Recipes are based on min mass 59g eggs.”. There is nothing and even on the website, there is one recipe, all they are trying to do is flog Heston’s recipe book. This is not a cheap machine, surely a couple of sample recipes could have been included to get you going. In my opinion, the website is just an advertising platform for Sage’s products, apart from that it is of no use. I think the Instruction Booklet can be improved regarding the Keep Cool and Start/Pause functions. Twice already after following the instructions, the machine did not do what I expected. I guess I will figure things out myself over time. 13 July 2014
Great Ice cream maker It is an expensive purchase but worth it. In less than an hour I had delicious home made ice cream ready to eat. In fact you really don't need to buy and store ice cream as it can be made as required. Disappointing that it doesn't come with a recipe book, but you can get them sent to you by customer service. Looking forward to trying out lots of different flavours 10 July 2014
A joy to use!! I love home made ice cream and this machine really delivers. It makes it to the absolute point of perfection and will keep it that way for a long time and if there is any left, it can be frozen and put in the freezer. The ice cream van tone is delightful and all the children were wanting more!!! It is quite heavy though and you do need somewhere to store it, but it is really worth it. 08 June 2014
Easy to use and great fun Whoops - sorry the break in the summer weather may be my fault - I ordered an ice cream maker. I know you can make ice cream without a machine, but in reality you never do. So far, with this machine, we've made ordinary ice cream, ice cream with bits in and sorbets. All have been a real delight and it is SO easy to use and clean. It does need to be 'stored' out on the work surface as there are warnings all over the place that it doesn't like being moved or tipped. It's a big beast so you'll need some space! My only grumble is that it didn't come with a recipe book. For the price I'd have at least expected a small pamphlet of ideas. They do encourage you to register the product and join the 'club' but even on the website there is just an advert for Heston's latest book - what a cheek! I've now ordered some recipe books (not Heston's) and look forward to a long summer of experimenting 25 July 2013
The best ice cream This machine is heaver than expected; but when it is running it stays where you put it. I was very supprised how quiet it is when on and the music when it is ready takes you back to being a kid again. This is by far the best ice cream maker I have used and worth every penny. A few recipes from Heston would have been nice. 10 July 2013
