I chose this machine as it claims to be really versatile and produce sorbet, gelato and ice cream so I paid the hefty price tag. I've had it 6 months and tried a few different recipes and, even on the hardest setting, only just freezes the ice cream. I have to transfer to the freezer immediately to stop it melting. The "keep cool" function doesn't seem to work as the ice-cream melts. I cannot recommend.

I've had a Gelato Chef for years only to upgrade to a more modern machine. My old Gelato Chef produced icecream in 20 minutes or less, this new Heston Bumenthal takes for ever, so not impressed.
What have I paid for......the name?

Not only does this machine make superb ice cream, it is also very easy to clean afterwards. Since its arrival recently - and the arrival of really warm weather - we have made some delicious vanilla ice creams and wonderfully refreshing raspberry sorbets. We continue to experiment to broaden our range of yummy ice creams and sorbets. The only slight downside is that the machine does have a fairly large footprint on the table, but otherwise highly recommended!

This is a great leap forward because it senses the consistency of the mixture and can also keep it just right for up to three hours after it's ready. First class results.

This is the real deal : it weighs 17kg but delivers a perfect end product as a result of the powerful compressor. icecream, sorbets and gelato come out really well. It requires a bit of experimenting with the ingredients for each recipe but that is part of the fun.

After reading all the reviews on this and other similar ice cream makers I decided to take the plunge and brought the SAGE soft scope ice cream maker. I am thrilled with it. It makes wonderful ice cream and sorbets, it is very easy to use and keep clean. I highly recommend it

We’ve used our Smart Scoop twice now. We settled on this ice cream maker because of its robust, quality built. I recommend it but there are niggles with the trimmings around it rather than with the machine itself because it is impressive.
This is a heavy machine (a good thing in my eyes), make sure you have a permanent ‘home’ for it because you will not be moving it around.
I see someone said it is quiet . . . my wife asked compared to what and I’m also curious. Ours is most definitely not quiet but it is an acceptable level of noise (away in the kitchen). It is the gears turning the tub that we can hear grinding away.
No sample recipes even though it states clearly in the booklet ”Ice cream recipes stated in this instruction booklet . . . “, “All mixtures in this instruction booklet . . . “ and “Recipes are based on min mass 59g eggs.”. There is nothing and even on the website, there is one recipe, all they are trying to do is flog Heston’s recipe book. This is not a cheap machine, surely a couple of sample recipes could have been included to get you going. In my opinion, the website is just an advertising platform for Sage’s products, apart from that it is of no use.
I think the Instruction Booklet can be improved regarding the Keep Cool and Start/Pause functions. Twice already after following the instructions, the machine did not do what I expected. I guess I will figure things out myself over time.

It is an expensive purchase but worth it. In less than an hour I had delicious home made ice cream ready to eat. In fact you really don't need to buy and store ice cream as it can be made as required.
Disappointing that it doesn't come with a recipe book, but you can get them sent to you by customer service. Looking forward to trying out lots of different flavours
