Futuristic, Fabulous Toast Yes, it's true, this toaster toasts bread well. Hallelujah! But it does so much more than simply toast. It toasts at variable levels -- light to dark and anywhere in between -- with a slider, which is superior to buttons because it allows half levels. It has a lighted countdown indicator to show you time remaining until the glorious toast is on your plate. It has a special bagel function, to toast the cut side and warm the outer. The extra wide, long slots accommodate fat, long slices and fat bagels. The "lift and look" feature, which I thought was a gimmick I'd never use, is in fact marvelously useful and highly exciting. Everything about this toaster is beautiful and well-designed. Even the "ping!" that sounds at the end of a toasting cycle is pleasant, but better yet the sound can be TURNED OFF!! I haven't turned mine off, even though I abhor electronic pings, because this one truly is nice. The buttons, which illuminate blue or red depending on function, are pleasant to touch. I particularly like the soft motorised lift, which raises bread high without popping -- the toast "emerges on an elevator like a Sith Lord rising from the Abyss", as an American reviewer said. Too true. Aesthetically it is nearly flawless. One reviewer said it looked like it was painted grey -- I strongly disagree. It doesn't look like paint at all. It is clearly metal, with sleek curves and a gorgeous, lightly brushed finish that still manages to gleam in the light. It fits in nicely with my stainless steel appliances. I was worried it would be too big, but it isn't. It's surprisingly compact given the amount of toast it can handle. In fact it's not much wider than a 2-slice long slot model I returned, a Cuisinart that I chose for its small size. As far as I can tell, this toaster is the only acceptable toaster money can buy. 16 April 2014
Disappointing finish! I made the mistake of buying this toaster unseen from the website thinking it would match the kettle of the same make and name. Its gadgetry is brilliant - press a button to lower the bread, press a button to check how it's doing. My irritation is an aesthetic one as I was expecting the toaster to be stainless steel to match the kettle - this it does not do! I do not like the finish at all. I think the outer skin may be plastic and it looks as though someone has finished it off by hand, using silver paint and a brush, which disappointed me considerably. However my husband loves all the buttons on this otherwise futuristic toaster that does toast the bread reasonably well!. 21 January 2014
