  • As your Chromebook boots up, it’ll quickly connect to your chosen wireless network so that you're on the web right from the start.

  • 8 hours battery life will ensure you’ll spend less time tied to your power socket, and more time enjoying surfing the web in comfort.

  • Your apps, documents, and settings are stored safely in the cloud. So even if you lose your computer, you can just log in to another Chromebook and get right back to work.

  • A 1.7GHz Exynos 5250 processor will ensure that you’ll be able to surf your websites without lag.

  • A bright 720p screen will highlight the finest of details when catching up with on-demand services such as BBC iPlayer or catching up with your friends photos on Facebook.

  • Every Chromebook runs millions of web apps, from games to spreadsheets to photo editors. Thanks to the power of HTML5, many apps keep working even in those rare moments when you're not connected.

  • You can easily share your Chromebook with family and friends too, individually being able to log in and experience all of their own Chrome settings, apps, and extensions, or use Guest Mode to browse privately. Either way, no one else using your Chromebook will have access to your email and personal data.

  • Your Chromebook gets better and better over time, unlike a traditional PC. When you turn it on, it updates itself automatically. This’ll mean all of your apps stay up-to-date, and you get the latest and greatest version of the operating system without having to think about it. No more annoying update prompts included!

  • Chromebooks run an operating system designed from the ground up to defend against the ongoing threat of malware and viruses. They employ the principle of ‘defence in depth’ to provide multiple layers of protection, including sandboxing, data encryption, and verified boot.

Beautifully designed.....but....you need a Cloud Printer The Chromebook is beautifully designed and so simple to use straight from the box, ideal for a novice. The start-up and page change is amazing and It is so light, but.... The JL specification claims battery life of 10 hours or 8 hours depending on the part of the JL specification is read. Unfortunately this is contradicted on the manufacturer's web-site, who only claim 6 in laboratory conditions! So in common with all manufacturer's claims, it could be almost half of that in normal use. 3-4 hours. More importantly the JL Spec does not mention the Chromebook will only print to a new Cloud Ready printer, OR by purchasing a Windows computer and printing through that and it MUST be switch on!! [Confirmed by JL Tech Support and Customer Services]. Sadly the Chromebook is returned as the later was not known before purchase. 19 April 2013
Fantastic computer for web/internet for everyone! There are a lot of times when a really fast web browser and a great keyboard are what you need/want. This ARM based Chromebook has fantastic user experience and long battery life. Family and friends can create a login and use it as their own machine and with HDMI out can be connected to a larger TV for catch-up viewing. Makes an ideal 2nd machine in a home that will be used 80% of the time. Rather good at creating documents, editing and sharing with others too with Google Docs Thoroughly recommended. 10 April 2013
Excellent product I spent a great deal of time looking for something that would book up in seconds, be more useful than an iPad and have the feel of a laptop. My initial though went towards the Chromebook but then went towards a full Intel i5 based laptop only to go full circle back to the Chromebook. Now having purchased the Chromebook from JL a few months ago I can only say good things about it. I am more of a laptop user by nature having had one for work for many years and my wife has an iPad. The Chromebook is a sleek, lightweight device and does exactly what it claims to do. It is fast to boot up from scratch, much faster than most other similar devices, and returns from sleep mode almost instantaneously. There are some very useful tools such as the spread sheet on which you can create some fairly complex formulae. The concept of saving your work directly into a repository in the cloud is neat and you work is always saved so there is no more lost work. And if you loose the Chromebook or you are without it for some reason you can always access the info from another device. There are plenty of apps to choose from on the webstore to keep you amused. It is also fun and a few people who I have shown it to also like it over other popular branded products. Buy one and if you are like me you will love it. 02 April 2013
Nearly there Before I bought the Samsung Chromebook, I spent a week or so looking at every review I could find to see whether it would be useful. Strangely, many of the reviews from late 2012 were split between 5 star and 1 star with the former wanting a browser-based operation and the latter expecting a very cheap MacBook Pro! Naturally, the second group was disappointed. Having decided it would be useful, I purchased it from John Lewis who offer the 2 year guarantee so saving £40-50, quick delivery and a good reputation. The Chromebook was more attractive and certainly better built than some magazine reports indicated, easy to set up, lightweight and all the other advantages others have reported. I wanted a sizeable Cloud storage for a large collection of photos and, once I had discovered how to sign up for Google Drive, it silently uploaded everything in about ten days. Even with a fast home network and BT Infinity, it still seemed a long time. Subsequent modifications and additions to the Drive contents proved that uploading can be slow - I had read that this was the case in reviews so wasn't surprised. Chrome OS is a continually developing product and whereas I was disappointed to read on the official Google Forum that files from external devices (SD cards and USB Flash drives) could not be uploaded to Google Drive, they can now and quite easily. The documentation supplied with the Chromebook is minimalist, presumably because the OS is improved with new features regularly. I find file handling still a bit crude but otherwise it does many things well. The keyboard is much better than some comments would indicate and playing videos is not the stuttering experience I did read about. I am pleased with the purchase and would recommend the product to those who know its strengths and limitations. There are a numbeer of improvements that could be made but please, Samsung or Google, keep us updated on what can be done from new features. 11 March 2013
Could Be Better I bought this item to replace an aged Netbook to use purely for internet surfing. Based on reviews here it seemed to be the ideal solution. Unfortunately the first one I received lasted for an hour before it started randomly crashing and turning off, and searches online showed this to be fairly common. Two weeks later the replacement appears to be fault free and works as it should as an alternative to the iPad or tablet. It boots quickly, doesn't require bloated anti-virus software and the Chrome browsers finds pages without constant buffering. However, if you want to produce complex documents or play games this is probably not going to be suitable. 27 February 2013
Brilliant Wonderful! It is quiet, sleek and lighter than I though imaginable at this price. It is also super fast and the screen seems to be excellent both in terms of quality e.g. pixel density and in brightness. It claims to be able to last for 6.5 hours on Chrome's website and seems to be holding up fine, I don't think the 10 hours quoted above is unmanageable; it seems to be holding up fine as I type.Don't hesitate as I did. It's brilliant. The web- what else do you need? Even when it's offline it manages the things most laptops do anyway document writer, spreadsheet, equivalent of power point- all offline! Can't fault it on looks, price of usability. Speakers are good too. 24 February 2013
Fast and quiet This has become the whole family's favourite way to surf the internet. It really is as fast as 9 seconds from powering up to be on the internet. The best thing is that it is totally silent. No fans no hard disk noise (because it is solid state storage). Someone can be sitting in the lounge using it and not disturb anyone else in the room. It definitely is the way of the future by storing documents and photos online which can be accessed from any machine. 20 February 2013
Everyone should have one I love my Chromebook as, unlike my experience with various desktop machines and laptops I have had before, (both Windows and Linux Operating Systems) I have not had to waste one minute installing or un-installing anything. In the past 12 years I must have spent hundreds of hours tweaking operating systems and waiting for software updates which eventually clogged up and slowed down my computer. Often I would be unable to access the internet because of software problems, viruses and malware. I never get the blue screen of death on the Chromebook - it does exactly what it says it will do and provides instant internet access with long battery life and no hassles. Another plus is how lightweight and cool it is - I can comfortably use it on my lap for hours at a time. 11 February 2013
