Schleich Pets: Dalmatian
Detailed figurine of a Dalmatian. Dalmatians are named after the region they're from - Dalmatia, an area in Croatia along the Adriatic Sea. Puppies are completely white when they're born. They develop their own unique pattern of dark brown or black spots within a few weeks. Eye colour may be brown, blue, or a combination of the two colours. Ten percent of Dalmatians are born deaf, but that doesn't stop them from doing their jobs: for thousands of years Dalmatians worked as carriage dogs-they walked alongside horse-drawn chariots and then carriages, encouraging the horses to move forward. Before the motorised car was invented, fire trucks were actually just horse-drawn vehicles, and the Dalmatian urged the horses to run as fast as they could to the blazing fires. Nowadays, they're just along for the ride.

The company was founded by a man named Friedrich Schleich in 1935, but it wasn't until the 1950s that the first figurines were created, with a range of comic characters such as Snoopy, The Muppets and The Smurfs being released. The pride themselves on being a developer and supplier of top quality products with an educational aspect, as all their products are developed with the assistance of parents, teachers and children to ensure that they are designed for children’s hands.
The design of the Schleich products and the creation of the required tools are done in house, thus enabling them to control the initial vital steps of creating a new product. The production itself takes place at the company’s German headquarters and in a number of production facilities in foreign countries.
