Seiko Radio Controlled Alarm Clock
Accuracy at last!
Our small clock (bought from John Lewis) had become unreliable and could not keep time, despite a new battery being fitted at shorter and shorter intervals. This Seiko was the ideal upgrade, as it relies on the radio atomic clock to check itself against. A bit fiddly to set up, and a bit disconcerting to watch the hands go round at speed to the correct time, but worth it to have an accurate timepiece. We went for the black one and don't really use the alarm clock feature, but it is handy to have to take away on holiday.

Noisy (in a quiet sort of way)
First the button stuck in, had to lever it out. Then OK, took a while to set to the right time. However, it goes clonk every 10 seconds (I think that's the way it works) which kept me awake waiting. Then one night, the radio control mechanism sent the hands all the way round with the necessary rapid clicking sound which woke me up. It's fine as a non-bedroom clock, I bought the flip over alarm instead.

Excellent but currently showing wrong time
Don't get me wrong, this is a good clock. It's just that it's supposed to change automatically when the clocks change. It didn't last night so I set it to manually search for the radio signal. That's a bit annoying since it's supposed to take the bother out of doing that, and particularly if you forget the clocks are changing.
And this has not been effective either. It found a signal but set itself to completely the wrong time i.e. when it was 7am it set itself to 9.35am! I've done this a few times now and it always sets itself to the wrong time. I live on the 15th floor of an apartment block so there must be a decent signal.

Impossible to read
As an alarm, this clock functions perfectly, but as a bedside clock, it is a design disaster. Four hands on a small face mean that you have to peer hard in daylight to work out the time. At night, it is impossible as the illuminating light is so low and shines for such a brief time, that even a non sleep befuddled brain couldn't calculate the time. I end up so cross with it that I can't get over to sleep again.

Much about this clock is great - especially the silence of the tick. However, the second hand remains stationary on 12 when the alarm is on. This means that it is difficult to tell the time in the night as you can not easily distinguish between the three hands. I am hoping John Lewis will give me a refund!

Surprisingly good quality alarm clock
This was worth every penny. I hesitated to buy it initially because it was so inexpensive but when it arrived I was really pleased with the clear face and clean lines. It stands well - not easily knocked over. One really good feature is that when the alarm is set, the second hand automatically stops so the clock is totally silent - such a sensible idea for light sleepers and those easily irritated by ticking clocks. The alarm sound is unusual in that the ringing starts slowly and then speeds up making it sound urgent. You can't ignore it! Handy snooze function and light. Buy it if you need a good quality alarm clock and don't want to pay too much.
