Misses out on a final star
This is far and away the best landline phone you can probably buy. The build quality and options available on this phone are incredible, and it's very well designed.
As for the negatives, there are three that I have found (the first two pertain to contact sync):
1. When you sync contacts from, say, Outlook - it automatically includes birthdays and automatically sets a calendar notification for every day there's a birthday. These cannot be disabled, which is very annoying when you have hundreds of contacts - each with a birthday on almost every day of the year.
2. Contact sync from Outlook does not work with 64-bit Microsoft Office. We have had to uninstall the 64-bit version and install the 32-bit version to enable us to use the contact sync capability of this phone.
3. As I have just discovered, if - like me - you receive an obscene amount of cold calls during the day, on the positive side you can disable the ringer between certain times, so these calls simply go to answerphone. On the negative side, there is no way to delete all the messages on the answerphone without listening to them all first. I have over 50 messages, and I can't be bothered to go through deleting them all. This is a massive oversight, which can in theory be fixed by a firmware update. But I don't hold much hope in that being fixed, sadly.
So - as an overall rating of three stars is apparently "average", it wouldn't be fair to give the whole phone three stars. It's considerably better than average, overall. However it's also far from perfect, so I can't honestly give it five stars.
If you hope to use the advanced functions of this phone, just be aware there are these limitations.

different class
super looking and very high tech land line phones..so much better than BT and other competitors.Easy to use though taking a while to get hang of voicemail facility.Quality does come at a price as these phones are so much priceier than others .

Quality kit
Our previous Siemens Gigaset (4000) system eventually gave up the ghost after 10 years of trouble free use so we looked to replace with the latest version. Although relatively expensive, the system is of excellent build quality and has numerous facilities to bring our communication system right up to date. With crystal clear sound quality for calls and message recording to match its good looks, we are delighted with this purchase. The click and collect service from our local Waitrose ensured we had our phones within 24 hours of ordering! First class service.

The right decision, definitely.
Bought this pair of good strong phones , having read the reviews . Really pleased with them - brilliant hands-free reception. Useful feature - very fast quick -dial facility. (Checked prices at other stores afterwards and found them £50 cheaper here at John Lewis!) Another right decision! Thoroughly recommend.

beautiful piece of technology
I suddenly realised the sense in considering a phone a little more up-to-date than my traditional plug in the wall phone, and how pleased i am that i did so. So now i can sit where ever i choose or indeed move around when taking a call, in our mid seventies we have finally moved into the 21st century with this beautifully designed piece of equipment, easy to use and understand. Thanks.

brilliant battery life and sound quality
Had a bt phone beforehand and was not happy with quality as I run a business from home. The battery life of SL400A is great, you can leave the phone out of the charger for a very long time and it still hasn't run out of power. The reception is really good all over my house and the sound quality is first class. Would always recommend this phone!
