Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II Camera, HD 1080p, 20.2MP, 3.6x Optical Zoom, WiFi, NFC, 3” LCD Flip Screen, Black

Product information

More than just a compact, the Sony RX100 II changes what you thought was possible with a point-and-shoot camera. Sleek, modern looks hide an advanced, extra large sensor that gives you unparalleled image capture with richer colours and incredible depth. You can also remember those special moments in exceptional detail thanks to Full HD video recording at the touch of a button.

This updated model features a superior ISO rating and is compatible with a range of powerful hotshoe attachments that will take your photography to the next level.

Key benefits:

  • Four times larger than standard sensor - the 1.0-type Exmor CMOS packs the details in. 20.2 effective megapixels give more vibrant shots along with exceptionally low noise level - even in low light situations.
  • The bright F1.8 Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens has a wide aperture that lets in more light. It's also the key to limitless creative effects, with your subject in sharp focus against a smoothly-blurred background.
  • A 3.6x optical zoom gives you more intimate portraits and detailed shots. Clear Image Zoom pushes this to 7.2 with even more detail and no sacrifice of pixel count
  • With a 3-inch flip-out screen the RX100 II gives you the flexibility to shoot however you want. Hold it over your head for crowd shots, or use the digital viewfinder (available separately) to frame the perfect portrait.
  • You can capture crisp 1080p movies with the touch of a button in the popular AVCHD format. The HDMI-out slot on the camera even makes it easy to share everything on your HD TV.
  • The RX100 II features a multi interface shoe that lets you upgrade your camera with attachments like an external flash, stereo microphone and digital viewfinder.
  • This camera also lets you shoot in RAW format for more control in the editing suite.
  • SteadyShot Active Mode cuts down on shaky camera movement when shooting video, even while walking or zooming. It even reduces blur when shooting stills.
  • Enjoy the freedom to fine-tune your image with full control over automatic and manual exposure modes. Surrounding the lens, a smooth control ring allows effortless fingertip adjustment of exposure, zoom, picture effect and other functions.
  • Take control of your photos and videos and bring them to life through your PlayStation 3 with PlayMemories Studio. You can add sound effects, or edit your videos to make the perfect home movie quickly and easily.
  • In-camera retouching lets you add a professional sheen to any photo with red eye removal, unsharp mask and more - all without a computer.
  • Includes battery pack, AC adapter, micro USB cable, wrist strap and strap adapter.

Q & As

Rated 4.9 out of 5 by 8 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good quality from a pocketable camera. Bought the RX100 2 as a carry anywhere camara to supplement the SLR. There are currently four variants of the RX100 with varying features and this one was the most appropriate at the price point for my purposes. Main features are the one inch sensor which is significantly larger than most compacts allowing better quality images with less noise, an equivalent focal range of about 28-100mm, and a screen which tilts both downwards for overhead shots and upwards to horizontal for waist high shots but not all the way to being selfie friendly. As with any camera the best images are produced by shooting RAW and processing in an application like Photoshop but out of camera jpegs are perfectly usable; I usually shoot simultaneous RAW and jpegs which the camera allows and ditch the jpegs after processing the RAW files. This is a genuinely pocket friendly camera, it is smaller than my mobile phone, which produces images almost on par with aps-c sensors of interchangable lens SLRs. 07 January 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Sony DSC-RX100 II Excellent camera. Construction is solid, well thought out controls provide maximum ease of use, image quality is astounding due to the size and quality of the sensor coupled with the high standards of the Zeiss lens. Low light photography is stunning due to the low noise and wide aperture available. A relatively short zoom but this poses no problem in most scenarios as due to the picture quality selective enlargements from part of the image provide results superior to comparable cameras with longer zooms. Battery life is excellent and the size lives up to the description 'compact' Overall I expected this camera to reach expectations due to reviews I had read, on using it I can state that it performs even better than expected. 07 January 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Sony RX100-11 Small enough to carry with you most of the time. Performance on par with a SLR. The prints really are that sharp. Can not fault it. 07 January 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Highly featured camera A friend raved about his MK1, so I was half-sold on this MKII version anyway. The MkII has an improved sensor array, an accessory shoe, and a partially useful hinged rear screen. The f1.8 lens allows excellent low light shots. The photos overall are first class even in auto mode. The camera is jammed full of software controls which should keep the enthusiast well occupied. I found the PDF instructions less than helpful in explaining what each options actually does. So I have bought a book which explains these features very well. (Author: Alexander S.White). The camera is small and as such takes a bit of getting used to but the ability to put in your pocket and take shots almost in the dark is very appealing. 07 October 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by An SLR disguised as a compact..! A great compact camera. Fantastic low light sensor, I rarely need to use the flash. Very good Wi-Fi functionality with smartphone, tv and PC. I recommend you buy the sony case, it protects the camera well and makes it easier to handle. Great movie function, and bags of manual control. Highly recommended. 05 May 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Easy to get great looking photos. Bought this camera to take on holiday as I did not want to lug around a DSLR. Excellent picture quality. All the features I’ve used are well implemented; the LCD is bright enough to use in sunlight with sunglasses, Clear Image Zoom worked great when whale watching, low level light trickery was good, wi-fi transfer to iPad was great for previewing the day’s photos, the LCD tilt was really useful as was the Tracking Focus etc. Result was best set of holiday photos I’ve ever taken. The only problem is with the summer cash back offer from Sony. I’ve yet to receive it 10 weeks after applying. When I call the Bolton number, the phone is promptly answered in France, where the very pleasant staff tell you they are extremely busy and will take a few more weeks before the transfer is processed. The impression I got though was that, to them, mañana would represent an unheard of level of urgency. Patience… This mix of exceptional picture quality, wealth of controls, sturdy build and compact convenience means that although not cheap, it is, for me, excellent value for money. 23 October 2014
