Product information

The Sony RX1 is not only a powerful, portable digital compact camera, it’s also the worlds smallest full frame camera. Enjoy richer shots in all conditions with the creative flexibility to add your own take. It’s also ideal for everyday exploring with a 24.3MP sensor, a large aperture, fixed focal length F2.0 Carl Zeiss Sonnar T lens and full manual controls.

Key benefits:

  • A Full Frame Exmor CMOS sensor and BIONZ processor deliver detailed, vivid shots, better than many DSLRs. When you want to capture the scene exactly as it is, the Full Frame sensor has a wide dynamic range for delicately lighting and expressive colours.
  • The shot you want, how you want it, every time. The lens of the RX1 has an aperture and focus ring, as well as on-the-body adjustment buttons right at your fingertips. There’s an exposure compensation dial, exposure lock, and even a custom button for your own settings.
  • Sony’s BIONZ processor ensures clear, detailed, low-noise images and responsive shooting.
  • A Carl Zeiss Sonnar lens offers brighter, clearer pictures. It creates sharp, high contrast results, while the multilayer T coating reduces ghosting and flare, for even greater image clarity.
  • Capture Full HD quality video clips at the touch of a button. Smoothly adjust focus and exposure while you’re shooting, just like a professional movie-maker. Your audience will be impressed by the polished, cinematic results. Shoot high quality AVHCD video with every frame at Full HD 1080 resolution. Choose cinematic 24p, for clips with a movie look.
  • Low light? No problem - lens and sensor work together in the RX1 to deliver a particularly high ISO level – right up to ISO 102400 in Multi Frame NR mode, for crisper images in low light. Multi Frame NR (noise reduction) mode creates a single bright photo from six images shot continuously.
  • Macro mode shortens the minimum focus distance to 20cm and sets the magnification ratio to 0.26 for close-up photography.
  • Sweep Panorama stitches together a burst of images to create extra-wide panoramic landscapes, city scenes and more.
  • Experience the full range of tonal gradations with the Intelligent Auto HDR (high dynamic range) setting.
  • Includes: battery, AC adapter, micro USB cable, shoulder strap, lens cap, shoe cap.

Q & As

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 16 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by SONY RX1 Best camera in the world for size, usage, convenience 17 March 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by No firmware update ! I baught this camera a couple of weeks ago, and it looks promessing so far. What is very odd is that the firmware is still on v 1.0, and no plans to upgrade according to Sony Support 01 March 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Sony RX1 full frame camera I have always desired this camera as all reviews show it to be a fantastic camera. Recently I was lucky enough to have the means to buy this camera and did so. This is due to the marriage of Sony full frame sensor , electronics and great Zeiss lens, which is excellent. Pictures are 'pin sharp' and colours true to life. I am still learning about the camera but, so far, it lives up to my expectations. I would certainly recommend this camera 29 September 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best fixed lens camera I bought this camera recently and so far I am very pleased with the high standard of photographs that I have taken. The Zeiss lens is excellent and all pictures are very sharp. The camera is well amde and should last for many years 11 September 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great lens and electronics I started using the camera outdoors, really working well. Indoors I'm having some trouble getting external flashes to work because the shoe is not compatible with any other camera... 12 June 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by As a camera should be First let me start my review by given everybody who’s thinking of purchasing the RXR1 how I arrived at my purchase. I started with cameras 1963, and owned two and quarter square roll film cameras and 35mm SLR cameras. Also did all my own developing and enlarging my black and white prints. So with fifty years being an amateur photographer and having owned many cameras, have always known the joy of being able to set a camera up with or without a light meter. These are the most important things to me which made me choose the RXR. My priorities were a camera which a viewfinder could be use and yes I have the FDA-EV1MK any concerning photographer would not be with one. The Zeiss lens having used microscopes for years have not found much too equal Zeiss plus all cameras fitted with Zeiss lens have given superb results. I went for a fixed lens because I found for landscapes, close up of plants and portrait this was ideal, when I did own different lens in the past I found I never needed to carry extra lens. I have had a cable release cable since 1963 and I am glad I held on to it because the RXR1 has a thread in the shutter release button which I may add works. If I have any gripes it’s the flash design while I understand the position when it’s activated is high to clear the lens when being use, the assembly feels flimsy. Also the socket for charging and downloading data could be more robust, but saying that there is no perfect camera we all find the design of the camera we own does not meet our individual needs. One thing would have been nice to have a professional developing software instead of the play memories you have to download to. 18 February 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Amazing Camera I bought this camera whilst on holiday in the US. I have always used full frame cameras and am totally amazed at the quality of the pictures on this camera. The size and weight are superb and the depth of clarity just unbelievable. A real winner in my books for the amateur and professional alike. 04 February 2015
