I've had the Assistant for one year and it was my first kitchen machine - until then, I'd always done everything by hand because I thought no machine was good enough or worth it but this one is. I use it to mix bread dough and it's excellent. It's also easy to use and clean. I'm not interested in using it to make cakes but I do use it for enriched fruit bread and buns and the bread dough hook works well without having to change it to the roller tool. The timer dial could have a little mark to begin/end - but that's a minor point.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Enwezor Really strong at bread
I've had this for a couple of years now with no complaints. As others have said, it deals with dough really well. You don't even have to use the dough hook for excellent bread dough - the roller is fine for it.
As other reviewers have said, it is ace for volume so as someone who makes a lot of pizza, it's capacity is really superb.
My only downside apart from being a bit noisy as the whisks simply can't compare to a single massive balloon whisk. If you really want to get tons and tons of air into meringue, it is adequate and will make meringues not problem (and I do) but 2 small balloon whisks does not equate to 1 big one.

Have wanted one of these mixers for quite some time but was a bit intimidated by the price, read all the reviews I could and finally took the plunge. I have to say it lives up to everything I've read about it. It's a fabulous machine and makes wonderful bread with very little effort, which is mainly what I use it for.
if you've been hankering for an "assistant" and your a passionate breadmaker take the plunge, it's a great investment!

I am keen on bread making and have used a vintage - A791A - Kenwood for a while. I used it for little else and realised it would not stand continuous heavy dough kneading. I had to replace it. So I keep it for all the other attachments it has. I was torn between a new Kenwood Titanium or the Assistent. I thought the Assistent rather quirky and somewhat eccentric in design, but it has remained almost unchanged for over 70 years and will put up with no end of heavy kneading. I plumped for the Assistent. I am not disappointed although I understand it will take a little time to get used to it. Its design is very odd, yet difficult to argue with as it is most effective. I will be using it 90% for bread. I have already noticed a huge difference in the "crumb". It is much lighter and much more satisfying to produce. The instructions are very basic and as I have noted before whilst researching it, people suggest referring to YouTube to get the best out of the machine. I love it. It is a thing of beauty and built incredibly well. When you first see it you wonder if it will ever work as it it looks so odd - but it does, superbly!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Melbourne12 Best mixer for breadmakers
The great strength of the Assistent is that it mixes bread dough better than any other domestic machine. Not only that, but it will mix 3kg of flour plus water to hydrate, enough for 6 large loaves. My previous Kenwood mixer maxed out on 1kg of flour at a time.
It also works extremely well for cake batters, using a roller rather than the dough hook. And it's as least as competent as other stand mixers for whisking and beating, using the separate smaller bowl.
The machine has a wonderfully solid feel to it, and is beautifully made. Although, as other reviewers have said, the diagrammatic instructions are a bit basic, to be honest it's so simple to use (and to clean!) that you don't really need much more.
Plus it comes in a range of colours. We chose the red one, which is very smart!

I am using the Assistent mainly for baking – either cakes or bread. It’s a bit different from other mixers as it’s the bowl that rotates. However it’s easy to use, and very easy to clean as most of the parts are dish washer safe.
It has a good dough capacity and the dough roller gives smooth and elastic dough without overdoing the kneading. It kneads dark rye dough just as well as light wheat dough. The stainless steel bowl comes with a cover which is useful when you’re proving/resting the dough and it also comes with a timer. The quality of the bread I am making has definitely improved with the Assistant, with more spongy and elastic texture.
The balloon whisks whips cream nicely. You can also use the whisk parts to make cake dough and potato mash, etc.
I am very pleased with the machine – it has also a nice design. The only negative point is that it’s fairly noisy when in use, but this is something I can live with.

The Assistent certainly lives up to expectation Great build quality and certainly creates perfect breads and cakes. My only grump is the booklet/DVD/info supplied which is appallng and I would suggest You Tube for anyone wishing to see exactly how it works. John Lewis - get in touch with Assistent manufacturers and assist in creating a decent instruction booklet!
