Panasonic NN-ST452W Microwave Oven, White
Bring back 10-power-level microwaves with better technology
It seems impossible to find a microwave in the UK to replace the excellent microwaves of a decade or two ago - the kind that had 10 power levels so you could choose exactly which power to use; the kind that had a good and sensible delay start function that still showed the time when delay-start was on; the kind that gave a loud series of beeps that you could hear in another room; the kind that did not have a noisy fan (like this microwave) that drowned the sound of the finished-cooking-beeps; the kind that defrosted (power level 4) in half the time and with better results than this microwave; the kind that allowed the user to be boss.
I have cooked with microwaves for almost thirty years. I would not recommend this particular microwave. It has a very noisy fan, the end-of-cooking-time beeps are too quiet, the delay-timer is not user-friendly and stops the display of the clock/time, the defrost function is poor. It only has 5 power levels but the spec does not tell you their output. And it is "tinny". Very disappointing, especially for the price.
If anyone knows where I get get a good old-fashioned, large, 10-power-level microwave, simple but better than today's technology, I would love to know. I could get several different 10-power-level models in Australia, and probably the USA as well.

My wife and I are very pleased with our new purchase.
Having had two previous Panasonic microwaves (one a combination) it was time to look for a replacement again. Going on previous good service, John Lewis was the number one choice. We discussed our requirements with a staff member and opted for this model. It does everything the previous one did, but better. The reduced number of touch pads make for quicker programming and the 'sensor' feature is a great plus point. It means there is no longer any need to enter weights when using the programmes. Thank you Lewis's.

Bad interior paint
My third model like the previous two has just started peeling paint. The grey paint on the floor of the oven is lifting in the groove where the rollers of the turntable sit. The first two started after approximately 6months and were replaced by John Lewis but this one has lasted marginally longer (maybe a year but I can't remember) and I have decided to change to a different interior surface.
I have no complaints about the functioning of the oven and am generally pleased with the defrosting/cooking. BUT having had the same problem on the two previous models I have been extra careful to clean this one with warm water only and to dry it after each use. I am extremely disappointed with what I believed to be a good quality product and would like to highlight the problem.

Great microwave, neat and not to big. Bought to replace an old Panasonic.

Could do better
After reading lots of reviews we opted for this model. Very disappointed and packed up after 10 months. Off to John Lewis we go........Not the best microwave. Doesn't do what it says on the tin. Defrosting items by weight is very poor and in my experience didn't do the job. Worth the £££. No. There must be better out there.

Does what it says
It was bought to replace an elderly model with similar properties. Even though I've not tried all the features, what I have used works well and made me realise how inefficient my old one had become. The instruction book is easy to follow and the keypad easy to use.
Yes, I'd recommend it on my experience so far.

Really good value for a large, simple to use microwave. It has stylish good looks and holds large plates and bowls easily.
