John Lewis Loft Simple Desks
A simple small desk
The simplicity of this desk is great, it fits neatly into the small room we are usng and provides space for the filing cabinet

Great desk for the money
I was a little concerned seeing all the negative reviews regarding damage and it being poorly made but have to say I'm very pleased with it. Had it assembled in under half an hour, all holes/screws aligned perfectly.
It's a great little desk ideal for the corner of the living room and would say the finish is above that of that big Swedish furniture chain and reckon it will last well.

Bought this with matching cabinet (see seperate review).
Despite a big impact in the side of the box and interior packaging the desk components were undamaged.
Assembly was going well until one of the quarter turn screws sheared off in the hole for the back plate.
Decided there and then to get a refund after having the damaged cabinet and started to question the quality and durability of these products.
Taken back to the store for a refund.

What A Mess!
I was looking for a simple desk the bedroom. It looked nice so I made the purchase. It arrived flat pack, so i got myself ready to put it together.
I finished constructing this desk after many hours of work.
The wood is very soft, and while the instructions told that careful screwing is need, the screws chewed into the wood and didn't grip.
Well, Its up, but I've got three screws that will still turn but not grip! What a hot mess.

After reading reviews I ordered this desk with some trepidation, mostly because I could not find anything else that was small and simple. Unfortunately I have to confirm that the desk was not easy to put together, holes do not line up, and overall the quality is poorer than I would expect from John Lewis. Now it is in situ it looks quite nice and is the perfect size that I wanted. However one leg is not quite straight and the veneer on the front edge is a bit rough. Small defects, not worth sending it back for, but such a shame as with a bit more quality control it could be perfect. I know it is priced low, but I for one would be prepared to pay more for a quality product, as I suspect would many John Lewis customers.

You would imagine that a piece of furniture as small as this would take no time to assemble. Consequently it's infuriating when the pre-drilled holes don't match up to the appropriate places and a five minute job becomes much longer. Also one of the metal screw locking devices broke apart; this may be an expected issue as 2 extra ones were supplied.
All that said, the desk does look attractive and should suit my ten year old very well.

Not wearing well
I've had this desk for about a year and as a writer I am using it at home daily. I have a pc screen and keyboard on it. I have noticed recently that the veneer seems to be fading in colour or wearing under the keyboard,, and on the front edge of the desk the layer of veneer is wearing away.
This is disppointing because what was a nice piece of furniture is now looking slightly shabby in no time at all. I look after my furniture so it hasn't had a hammering- just normal use.
