Find out all you need to know about delivery options for your online orders

 

Standard delivery

Standard UK delivery is FREE on all orders of £50 and over from John Lewis, either in our shops or online. It's also free for orders of any value if you opt to collect from one of our shops (selected items only). This is subject to availability, and excludes gift vouchers, international delivery destinations, and premium delivery services.

Charges and options

About our delivery service

Standard UK delivery is FREE on all orders of £50 and over, or on any order when you opt to Click & collect from a chosen shop (selected items). We charge £3 for standard UK delivery on orders under £50.

  • The delivery options for a product can be found on each individual product page. We deliver most items Monday to Saturday, 7.30am-6pm (although some of our carriers may deliver slightly earlier or later). We deliver Hampers and to remote areas Monday to Friday
  • Gift Vouchers may be despatched via Royal Mail, and charges vary according to total order value
  • Products may be sent out from multiple locations and therefore may arrive separately, but you won't incur additional delivery charges as a result
  • If you order items with both 5 and 7 day quoted despatch times, your order may be consolidated and those products will arrive together, usually within 7 working days
  • If you've ordered items that show delivery usually within 7 working days or items with a delivery time of 2 weeks or more, we'll call you to discuss delivery, unless we've given you the option to select a delivery date during checkout
  • If next working day or named day delivery is available for your order, we'll offer you these options at checkout. These options are available for Monday to Saturday delivery; order by 7pm previous day (order by 7pm on Saturday for delivery on the Monday). Hampers or pre-10.30am delivery is from Monday to Friday; order Hampers 12 noon the previous working day for next day delivery
  • We can't guarantee delivery within our usual timescales to a small number of remote rural areas. See the section on Delivery exceptions for more details
  • Sorry, but we don't deliver to BFPO addresses
  • Please note that we reserve the right not to deliver an order if we believe the address is not secure, for example to a communal postal address or PO box. If this affects an order you place, we'll notify you as soon as possible
  • On rare occasions, some items may be delivered outside the published timed windows

Delivery by our approved suppliers

If you see “Delivered by our approved suppliers” when you order a product, it means that it will be delivered directly by the manufacturer or their courier, rather than by our own green van fleet.

For heavier products, which generally means anything that needs to be delivered by 2 people, you’ll be contacted directly by the supplier with a proposed delivery date within the time frame shown at point of sale. For smaller items, the supplier will despatch to you using their preferred carrier, and won’t usually contact you in those instances.

We’re sorry that delivery complexities mean we aren't able to offer next-day or time slot services for products delivered directly by suppliers. Our suppliers may also be unable to deliver to every post code, and delivery to highland, island and rural post codes may take slightly longer than advertised.

Deliveries to multiple addresses

If you'd like to have items sent to separate UK addresses, please complete a separate order for each address. A separate delivery charge will be made for each address.

 

Can't wait for delivery? Why not try our Click & collect services?

Simply place your online order by 7pm today (2pm for Collect+ locations), and we'll deliver it to your chosen shop for you to collect tomorrow.

Click & collect services are available for most but not all of the items we sell, so please check individual product pages when you place an order. We're unable to accept orders that include items for Click & collect services as well as items for delivery, so in these cases, please place two separate orders – one for collection and one for delivery.

This service is available FREE for collections from all John Lewis shops, and an increasing number of Waitrose branches.

If you live in Scotland, Wales, SW England or Northern Ireland, and it's a more convenient option for you, for just £3 you can also collect from your local Collect+ shop. Collect+ is a network of over 1500 local shops in those areas.

How to click & collect

1. Place and pay for your order online

John Lewis & Waitrose shops

Orders placed before 7pm Collect at your chosen shop's collection point after 2pm the next day.

 

Orders placed after 7pm Available for collection after 2pm the day after tomorrow, for example an order placed on Monday after 7pm will be available for collection from 2pm on Wednesday

Collect+ shops

Order by 2pm Sunday – Friday - Collect next day

Order after 2pm Sunday – Thursday - Collect day after tomorrow

Order after 2pm Friday or anytime Saturday – Collect Monday earliest

Once you've received your unique bar code via email or text message, you can go and collect your order. The time of day your order is available will vary as it depends on the time your order is scanned in as received by the Collect+ shop.

2. Pick up your order from the Customer Collection Point at your chosen John Lewis or Waitrose, or your local Collect+ shop

A map and opening times for your chosen shop will appear on your receipt.

If you've given us your mobile phone number, we'll send you a text message when your goods are ready for collection. Please save the message, and bring your phone with you to show the text as proof of purchase, along with the payment card you used. For your protection against fraud, we can't release your order without seeing your payment card.

If you've paid entirely by PayPal or gift vouchers, then please bring a photo ID, which must be your passport or photo driving licence.

For Collect+ orders, your confirmation text and/or email will contain your unique barcode, so please bring this with you.

If you don't have a confirmation text, please bring a printout of your order receipt or order confirmation email instead as proof of purchase, along with photo proof of ID (passport or photo driving licence).

We're happy for someone else to collect your order, but to prevent fraud the person you've nominated must present your order number (and barcode for Collect+) and their photo ID (passport or photo driving licence).

Your order will be available for collection at your chosen shop for 7 days, after which it will be returned to our warehouse and your account will be refunded, but please allow up to 2 weeks for this.

 

Restricted postcodes and delivery exceptions

 

We deliver to most postal areas in the UK including Northern Ireland, but we're sorry that geographical location and carrier availability can restrict our service. We may not always be able to deliver certain products to Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Man.

We now deliver a range of products to a number of countries outside the UK, including the Republic of Ireland - see the section on International delivery.

Sorry, but we don't deliver to BFPO addresses.

Restricted postcodes

Monday next and named day delivery service - weekend ordering

For many areas the order cut-off time for a Monday "next day" delivery (excludes bank holidays) will be 7pm on the previous Saturday, but for the following postcodes, you'll need to make sure you order by 7pm on the previous Friday: AB; BT; DD8-11; GY; HS; IM; IV1; JE; KW; PA20-78; PH19-44; TR21-25; ZE.

Places where delivery might take longer

There are a small number of postcodes, usually in remote rural areas, where we cannot guarantee delivery within our usual timescale if you have requested Next working day delivery. If you've requested this service and your order is going to a postcode listed below, please allow extra time for the item to arrive as shown. The table indicates the total timescale for delivery from the date you place the order, providing you do so by 3pm on a working day.

Standard delivery will not usually be affected and remains 3-5 working days.

Express delivery

When you need something in a hurry, on selected items we're now able to provide an Express 2 working day delivery service.

If your postcode is listed below, we're currently unable to offer the Express service in your area. We're sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

International delivery

We now offer delivery of products from our website to international destinations. The countries currently served are in the list below.

We'll also be gradually adding products available to export, so the choice will be increasing all the time and it's worth checking the site regularly. Please be aware though, that for logistical and legal reasons, not everything we sell is eligible for international delivery.

In some but not all instances, the recipient will need to sign for an international delivery; this depends on the local carrier and value of the order. We'd advise you assume that someone needs to be in to receive the parcel.

Please note that the Channel Islands and Northern Ireland count as UK, not International delivery.

Sorry - we can't currently deliver website orders to BFPO addresses, but our Export department at John Lewis Oxford Street may be able to help - find out more.

Products excluded from international delivery

 

we're sorry that not everything we sell online is eligible for international delivery, for reasons connected with logistics, legalities and warranties. Here's a list of exclusions:

  • All electrical items (including those with batteries)
  • Lighting (except lampshades)
  • Furniture (including outdoor)
  • Blinds, curtain poles and tracks
  • Fabric by length, fabric samples, wallpaper
  • Rugs
  • Mirrors
  • Heavy or bulky items which need to be carried by more than one person, e.g fitness equipment
  • Nursery travel, e.g car seats and pushchairs
  • Crackers and candles
  • Liquids and aerosols
  • Beauty products
  • Knives/scissors
  • Paints, glues and products containing these items (e.g toys)
  • Food/alcohol/perishables/flowers & plants
  • Gift List deliveries

John Lewis Delivery Limited

 

When you order products on our website, all of these products will be sold to you by us, John Lewis plc. We can also deliver the products to you at addresses in the UK and Channel Islands.

For international deliveries outside the UK and Channel Islands, the delivery service will be provided to you by John Lewis Delivery Limited (JL Delivery Ltd), which uses the carrier, DPD. JL Delivery Ltd is our sister company within the John Lewis group, and specialises in providing delivery of goods to international addresses. It can offer you international delivery of goods sold on our website (subject to certain exclusions – see below). All you need to do is select "International delivery provided by JL Delivery Ltd" as your delivery option, and specify your international delivery address.

Duty Payments

 

Products delivered to some destinations, mainly outside the EU, may be subject to taxes, fees, levies or other charges, which are imposed by local legislation. The recipient of the products is responsible for all customs formalities for their export and import, and will be required to pay any additional charges, including import duty, formal customs entry, taxes, levies and other charges. The recipient of the goods, not the person who's ordered them, will receive a separate request for payment of these charges.

If you're ordering products to be delivered to someone else, please make sure they're aware they'll be responsible for these additional charges. Unfortunately we have no control over these charges and cannot predict what they may be, so we're unable to offer any assistance on these processes. We'd advise that you check the import charges applicable in any country before ordering products to be delivered there.

Payment and VAT

 

Payment for products and delivery services is to be made in pounds Sterling. All prices shown on the website for both products and delivery services are inclusive of any applicable UK VAT. This means that the total price you pay us for products, or JL Delivery Ltd for the delivery, is always the same, regardless of whether or not UK VAT is chargeable on the sale. Where you've requested delivery to a EU address, the price paid for the product and the delivery service will usually include UK VAT, which will be shown on your VAT receipts issued to you by both johnlewis.com and JL Delivery Ltd. To obtain a VAT receipt , sign into Your Orders and then click on the View your order/obtain VAT receipt link.

Where you're not a UK resident and you've ordered products for delivery by JL Delivery Ltd to a non-EU address, both the products and the delivery service will normally be zero-rated, with no UK VAT chargeable on either. However, the price paid by you for the products and delivery services will remain the same as shown on the website.

Because of this, our website may not be the best way for you to buy products if you're either a non-UK resident and wish to claim back VAT on orders for delivery outside the EU, or you're an EU business customer expecting to buy goods and delivery services without UK VAT on them.

In these situations, you may prefer to place your order through our specialist export service. However, please note that shipping costs charged by this service will be higher than the cost of the delivery service offered via the website.

Changing, cancelling or returning an order

 

We're sorry that in most circumstances it's not possible to make changes to your order once you've placed it. If you'd like to add products to your order, please place a new order for these items.

If you need to change details of your delivery address, remove items from your order or cancel it completely, please contact our Customer Services team for advice on +44 1698 54 54 54 seven days a week, between 7am and midnight (UK time), or email us here. Please be ready to quote your order number and order date.

If your order has already left our warehouse for delivery to you, then you'll need to follow our Returns procedure in the event of any unwanted products.

To return items, please package them securely and send the parcel back to the address shown on your delivery note using the sticky label provided. If the item is simply unwanted, you will need to pay for postage.

If we have sent you the wrong items, or your order is faulty, damaged or not as described on arrival, please contact us. We will refund any postal charges you incur to return such items. Please note that this refund will be in sterling, and may therefore not equate exactly to the amound paid, owing to fluctuating exchange rates.

Please make sure that whatever your reason for returning goods, you obtain proof of postage from your post office, and we will credit your account as soon as possible.

Please note that personalised or made to measure products cannot be returned unless faulty, and we also cannot accept returns of unsealed CDs, DVDs, tapes or other recording media, software or video.
