I've used this ice cream maker once and it made great ice cream! I'm concerned by reviews suggesting it can develop leaks, but it's done a good job so far.

I had been wanting an ice cream maker for years and saw this item and so put it on my Christmas list. Santa was very good to me and so I made my first batch of pistachio ice cream today and it was absolutely fantastic. So easy to use and relatively quick. The longest process is allowing 8 hours for the custard to cool before starting the churning process, which took only 15 minutes. The bowl is now a permanent fixture in the bottom of my freezer, so I can make ice cream when I want to, and I am planning to use it regularly so i will see if I experience the leaking blue fluid issue over the coming weeks. I would highly recommend this product.

Like other buyers, my bowl leaked blue fluid after about 3 uses. Because it was out of the annual warrantee, KitchenAid didn't want to know despite it seemingly being a known problem with this product. I wish I had now brought a Kenwood mixer and ignored the KitchenAid trend. It was an expensive mistake!

Used once with limited success.
Went to use second time, found blue liquid leaking from the side where it hooks into the mixer.
Assumed liquid was some sort of chemical as it didn't freeze, so got rid of it along with food in the freezer it leaked over.
Spend your money on something else.

It does make gorgeous ice-cream. But don't have it kicking around the kitchen - every time you've used it and cleaned it, put it back in the freezer; then you can make ice-cream on a whim.
OK, it takes up a bit of room, but not much more than a large tub of shop-bought ice-cream. And it is a bit expensive, but what Kitchenmaid attachment isn't?

Rated 4 out of 5 by LisL A simple way to make icecream!
As long a you own a Kitchenaid mixer this accessory is a useful addition. As with all Kitchenaid products - overpriced - but well made. Certainly the churning of the cream in preparation is robust and the final product is totally smooth. The other advantage over closed systems is that you can add fruit or other such later in the churning process so keeping it entire. Particularly useful with soft fruit.
Once I read the instructions (!) the set up was SIMPLE (fixing the holder) & dismantling also easy. Cleaning easy.
If you have a family who love icecream, enjoy experimenting with flavours/using fresh ingredients and have room in your freezer for the bowl (quite big) to live this is a useful gadget!

Ok, should have read the instructions as first use, did not see mixture needed 8 hours + to chill prior to churning in the ice cream maker.
Also the half and half ingredients took a while to work out via the internet that half full fat milk and half whipping cream is the same as the American half and half ingredient quoted in the Kitchen Aid recipe book.
However all this aside, WOWSER first attempt at Banana ice cream a huge success. The only tip is do not add all the mixture into the bowl to churn, as found out it did not go to the consistency stated in the book and appeared to be struggling to churn.
By removing half the quality into another bowl, it then became ice cream in a matter of minutes. Transferred to freezer container and then churned the other half. It made a lot, but as it tastes so good, yum!
About to try triple chocolate recipe with a twist by adding chocolate fudge brownies into it. Will be fun and hopefully delish!
Have read other reviews about storage in freezer, luckily we did not experience the same problem, or so far with the leakage. However, having purchased this at John Lewis, I am assured if there is a problem in the future with the latter, this will be swiftly resolved.
Fantastic product from Kitchen Aid and fantastic service pre and (normally) post from John Lewis.
