Q & As

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 4 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Amazing features, complex menu and bewildering autofocus I bought this as I wanted to update our 8 year old DSLR, but I wanted to take more video. The sensor stabilisation was the killer feature I wanted, and a more compact camera was appealing for family outings when the DSLR is too much hassle. Initially I was amazed by how well the stabilisation works, makes handheld video look like tripod/steadicam footage, however the menu's are ridiculously complicated, and the autofocus is very hit and miss. After struggling for a while I've got the hang of the menu's, also realised you need to use some tricks to get round the weird autofocus - using back button focusing is easy to setup and use and makes a massive improvement. I've added a 12-50mm and 40-150mm lens which make this really flexible, and the auto-lens cap which should be included as its basically essential and this makes a really nice portable outfit. If you want to shoot handheld video and telephoto the stabilisation is amazing, so thats the USP for the E-MD camera's which justifies the other annoyances, but be prepared for some head scratching and trial and error over the first few weeks to get your head round the menu's and autofocus, certainly i found its worth it in the end. 13 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by AS GOOD AS IT GETS I Purchased this camera as backup/addition to my EM1,but find i am using it more than em1, as it can fit in a jacket pocket which means you can always have it with you the quality is out standing, highly recomended 08 July 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Disappointed It can take nice shots but so it should for the price. My previous m4/3 cameras were all from Panasonic the G1,GF1 and G3 so I bought this from JL at Cheadle last week as a replacement. I shoot with many cameras of various formats and it may be that my expectations were higher given the hype, but when my tiny Sony RX100 created images with better IQ I was bothered. I have many legacy lenses and I switched from the beautiful pancake EZ lens to some primes expecting a big improvement in IQ. There was none. Over the last week I've tried all sorts of tricks to improve things but I still get images with less than well-defined edges and a very flat look.. I don't rule out shutter shock. I don't know. I returned to JL yesterday to see if I could change the camera for another just in case I had a bad copy. The salesman convinced me by testing another that everything was normal. Well if this is normal then I'm dumping m4/3 for good. Even the RAW files can lack the level of detail expected. On the good side , the tiny EZ lens is a joy with an auto lens cap and was amazingly good when tested against the well respected 14-45 lens. It's just the camera sensor barely competes with 2/3 or 1" compact cameras in my possession. I don't know what to do now but I won't be taking this on holiday. 08 May 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by An immensely good camera for the money I bought the silver version of this product via JL in Kingston because there was no stock anywhere else. This camera was a 'new release' and so I bought it sight-unseen based on reviews in the press and online, knowing that JL wouldn't give me any hassle with a return if I decided it wasn't what I wanted. I needn't have worried - this camera is beautiful and produces some staggeringly good quality photos. I'm completely in love with it! Yes, it's the price of some well-established DSLR cameras such as the Nikon D7100, but I wouldn't have wanted to carry something of that size and weight around very often. This beauty is smaller and lighter than my Canon SX1-is bridge camera, but gives better quality results and is more likely to be with me when a photo opportunity arises. The menus are a bit complex - doesn't bother me, but may be a concern for some people. In any event, the "iAuto" setting on the top dial means that it's effectively a "point & shoot" if you don't want to get too creative. Highly recommended! 16 April 2014
