Q & As

Sonos PLAY:1 Wireless Music System 4.6 5 119 119
Sounds brilliant Have just bought the sonos play. The lovely shop assistant was very usefull. My teenager has installed and Deezer is working fantastically well. Great product. 22 December 2014
Very Poor quality sound We purchased several of these (play 1/3 & 5) to build a multi room system and found all sorts of problems from the sound -they definitely aren't a premium sounding speaker even with the play 5 there is no depth and the sound doesn't carry well. The fact you can't play just any music free spotify or you tube music which some of my children do or audio books is have to subscribe to a "premium service" It's also common to find black spots in your house with the wifi and that affects the quality of the sound drastically. I would rather pay the extra and get a premium sounding system...because once you add up what you spend building this "multi room" system it's really just a gimmick! 21 December 2014
Very Pleased. Better than my old Bose sound dock I have read mixed reviews but seeing there were more positive than negative reviews I ordered a couple. It has to be said that it's an excellent bit of kit. Chunky, well made. Great clear sound that can cope with all musical genres I have thrown at it. Goes loud without distorting too. My fear was about the software reliability from the negative reviews I read and so far they've been completely unfounded. Very easy to install the app. Very easy set up through my WIFI. Very easy to access my music through my iPad, iPhone, and iMac. No issues of losing connection, quickly finds the network when turned on after being unplugged. Even when iPhone or iPad is in standby it still plays fine. Software updates are simple too. I have one in my lounge and one on the bedroom. They can be synced to play the same, or to play different music. E.g. Duran Duran in the living room, Barry White in the bedroom. 20 December 2014
Great product! Great sound from this Sonos 1 and perfect for my lounge...would certainly recommend this product to anyone who enjoys listening to their music and air playing the latest sounds. 16 December 2014
Great:) easy to set up and use. Great with the free deezer subscription for a year. Love listening to my music on it, good quality sound. Kids use on their iPads too. 16 December 2014
Sonos 1 sounds great Bought this speaker after comparing it with Bose products, some of which I have already. The Bose sounded very bassy and boomy by comparison with the Sonos, which is very clear, verging on bright, giving a much more listenable sound across music and speech. Setting up with my Mac network was a doddle, as was installing the Sonos app on iPhone and iPad. So far, it is all working well and I love the sound. 16 December 2014
SONOS PLAY don't buy for Audio books This system will not work with audio books from iTunes The main reason to buy this system was for Audio books which I explained to Sonos Rep in J Lewis who said it would be fine. I then looked on google lots of postings about file problems with this system. So I will have to make another journey into J Lewis to return! 14 December 2014
Its the future - I've tasted it! Once you get your head round the concept and understand what you are buying here, this is a fantastic piece of kit. First of all let me say that I am tone deaf, but once I set this little baby up, the first track blew my socks away. The bass and clarity from such as small unit is impressive. OK, obviously it is is only a single sound source, so tracks which are set up for stereo are not going to sound perfect. For those struggling with the concept, let me try and simplify; Your music has to be stored on a device capable of streaming to the Sonos so you can hear it. An iPad is not ideal for this as it means that the iPad has to be powered at all times. The battery drains; the music stops. A laptop is a slightly better choice but again, laptop goes off or to sleep, music stops. And laptops generally have their own speaker and are portable, so do you really need the sonos? A desktop PC is probably the sensible option. They are generally always on and can store a lot of tracks*(see below though) and you wouldn't lug your desktop to the bathroom when you take a bath. The optimum solution is a NAS or Network Attached Storage device. This is like an intelligent box with a hard drive. Look it up on Google. They are great, buy one. Do it now. Once you have your music on a remote source you can now stream to your sonos. Using the App on an iPad (finally a use for it yay!) or iPhone or Kindle or Android device, you send music to the sonos and build up playlists. You dont really send the music to the sonos, because when you set it up, you point the sonos to where your music is and it builds and index. Once you have kicked off your fav tracks or built an ad-hock queue, you can remove whatever you used to start the music from the equation. Your playlist will continue on the sonos with whatever options you have selected. You can use the buttons on top to play, pause and adjust the volume. The only limitation I have found so far is *You can only have a maximum of 65000 tracks 13 December 2014
