Spiced Apple Chutney


This spiced apple chutney is the perfect accompaniment to cold meats and cheeses. You can always double the quantity and make extra for some thoughtful, homemade gifts!



- 12oz onions, chopped
- 3lb cooking apples, chopped
- 6oz Dates chopped
- 1oz mixed spices
- 1oz paprika
- 1oz coriander
- 1/2oz cinnamon
- 1/2oz Salt
- 1/2 pint of malt vinegar
- 13oz graulated sugar



1) Chop the onions, cooking apples and dates and add these, along with the remaining ingredients, into a large pan. Slowly bring to the boil until the sugar had dissolved.


2) Simmer for 1 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally so it does not stick to the bottom of the pan.


3) After 1 hours check the chutney is thick enough by drawing the wooden spoon across the base of the pan. If it leaves a line behind that does not fill with liquid straight away, then the chutney is done.


4) Pour into sterilised jars, seal and leave to cool. You can store for up to 3 months in a cool, dark cupboard.
