Swan STM100 Teasmade
Swan STM100 Teasmade
We have used this model of teasmade for a number of years, and been very pleased with its performance. However recently whenever we tried to use it it caused the electricity supply to trip. When I dismantled the machine I discovered that the kettle component had corroded, and presumably leaked when under heat and pressure, causing the electricity supply to fuse. We have remedied the situation by buying another Swan STM100 Teasmade.

I had read the previous poor reviews but decided to go ahead and purchase the teasmade as a friend had recommended it. Sadly after 2 weeks of use it is leaking and the tray that it was standing on (luckily I had used a tray) was soaking wet on the last couple of mornings. Also the light on the clock is still very bright despite the manufacturers stating it dimmed automatically. I had to cover the clock face as it lit up the corner of our bedroom. I will be returning it for a refund.

The teasmade didn't work properly. The connection between the jug and the switch which it pressed against only worked intermittently. In addition on one occasion the water in the tank heated up but didn't whoosh into the jug. Extremely disappointed!

Swan Teasmade Use with caution.
This is the third one I have owned. the first one lasted 9 years the second lated 2 weeks and the present one so far has been working for 3 weeks but as previous units leaked we are hopeful this one is more reliable

Have also to report that mine is now leaking at 2.5 years of use. Took the first one back after 6 weeks when it stopped working. Not impressed

Phew! just in time......!
I bought this for my mother on 01.12.2011 for her christmas present. She absolutely loves it. Uses it every morning and thinks the digital clock is great because she doesnt have to listen to a ticking clock. She was pretty upset when she noticed that it was leaking water from the tank, a couple of weeks ago. I checked the guarantee and was relieved to find that it was 2 years and we were just within this time by a few weeks. As per some of the other reviews on this item, the tank has corroded. My mum took it back into John Lewis and spoke to an assistant, who said as it was within the 2 year guarantee so they were happy to send her a new one that would arrive within 5 working days. He also informed her that this swan teasmade was only designed to last 2 years. Thats why its priced cheaply. Which I think is appalling! However, the service from john lewis was excellent. I couldnt fault it at all.

Stirred AND Shaken
Bought approx. 5 years ago. Like another reviewer, had to shield the over-bright light. Also irritated by the vague clock. 6 months ago noticed pool of water on tray which(fortunately!) it was on. Carefully re-filled, confirmed leaking badly. As it was well out of guarantee, removed base to investigate. Found weld at base of water tank corroded and leaking. Alarmed to find main electric supply cable was attached to the bottom of tank, a serious design fault. Despite this, liking my early tea so much, I replaced from your local store with the STM 101, with a readable clock and much fainter light. I believe a warning should be given to inspect regularly for signs of leakage and, if detected, disconnect immediately.

We had the original Swan teasmade for well over 30 years and only had to replace the kettle once for leaks and the tea pot twice (after we broke them).
We have had this model of teasmade for nearly 3 years and this weekend it starting leaking and as it trips the electricity, we can no longer use it.
The most annoying fault of this teasmade was that the light of the clock and the light coming from the buttons and (any ill-fitting parts of the outside of the machine) was so intense that we had to cover the whole machine with a thick dark cloth.
Also, the machine was a bit light weight so that when you leant out of bed to switch off the machine, it would slide across the bedside table. Oh and yes, the tab came off the tea pot lid whilst washing up as well!
Having had a teasmade for 35 years we really woud like to have another one, but on the basis that this only lasts 2 - 3 years, we might resort to a kettle on a timer by the bed instead!
