Editors Notes
The Tisserand story
Robert Tisserand was an interesting teenager who grew up practising spiritual healing at the age of 15. During a train ride back to boarding school he had a vision of bringing the benefits of essential oils to people to improve their overall health and happiness.
Having studied and practised as a massage therapist and healer, Robert started the Aromatic Oil Company in 1974 from his bedroom in a South London house. He slowly built up his business over 11 years, despite financial struggle and discouragement from others.
Robert carefully bottled the oils himself, hand-wrote the labels for each bottle and painstakingly packed the parcels to despatch to customers every Saturday morning from his local post office. His pure dedication and interest led him to write his first book ‘The Art of Aromatherapy’, published in 1977, as well as ‘Aromatherapy for Everyone’, and ‘Essential Oil Safety’, a reference guide for the aromatherapy industry.
In 1985 a new company, Tisserand Aromatherapy Products Ltd was formed which allowed Robert to become the essential oil and formulations consultant utilising his years of experience. He continues in this role to this day.
