Q & As

Toshiba Canvio 2.5 Portable Hard Drive, USB 3.0, 1TB 5 5 1 1
Good product Really nice little drive -- I was amazed at how small it was compared to my last detachable drive (which also only had half the capacity). Data transfers also incredibly fast. Cable is relatively short, as other reviewers have noted. This is actually an advantage if like me you're using it with a laptop -- less redundant cable to get in the way -- although I can see might conceivably be a problem with a tower-style drive. Only grumble: really bad documentation for Mac users. It actually works excellently with Mac OSX and Time Machine but first you have to go to Disk Utilty and format disc in (I think, it was a while since I did this) Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. The formatting takes less than a minute, but the lack of documentation supplied with the drive meant I wasted a good half hour having to work this out for myself. 16 October 2013
