Q & As

Rated 3.5 out of 5 by 19 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Initial Impression Good Bought this to replace another network drive where one of the two drives had failed as replacement seems to make more sense than repair. Very easy to set up and transfer files. Have backed up to one of the connected network computers for security. Ordered Click & Collect and this worked well - the collection point (Welwyn Garden City store) needs more staff and a way of dealing with problem orders (not mine!) without causing avoidable queues. 14 April 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by WD MYCLOUD 2tb Only had the drive a week So far so good, connected drive to my router using an Ethernet cable, followed the set up instructions inc all appropriate software updates. Then proceeded to copy examples of videos, docs & photos to the drives. Installed appropriate APPS to iPhone & iPad I could then see these using my both devices on my network & away from my home, so copied what was required. Whilst well away from home I could see all appropriate files. However, I have discovered using a smart TV that I have not set the the directories up to stream direct to the TV. Have not used the disk for Time machine as this is done using other disks. The WD Disk was ordered on a Friday Afternoon & delivered to my local Waitrose store by 1pm SATURDAY Five star service. At the moment I still give this Five Stars though I question whether I should I have bought the 3tb or 4tb disk ? Will have to sort out the streaming of my videos. Was very sceptical at first about buying this WD drive because of previous reviews however I have confidence in John Lewis. 04 April 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by perhaps the most disappointing purchase ever What does this really do that the cheaper range doesn't do? If you are a Mac user then you will need a Mac formatted drive to do most of the things you're hoping this will do, such as share your iPhoto library. This can't be formatted for Mac. 29 March 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Incompatible with Time Machine! OK, it works with Mac if you just want to store files etc. However I have wasted hours trying to persuade Time Machine to use it for back-ups. Turns out the device is not supported by Apple for this application. I will be returning it. 06 March 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by A good introduction to a home NAS I would actually give it 4.5 stars if I could. Basically it works ... don't expect super fast performance - but at this price point very good. One important thing is to make sure that you plug it into a 1GB network ... BT Home Hubs only recently have more than one 1GB socket ( a switch can be obtained quite cheaply) - this improves the transfer speed by 10x. The tools used to maintain it are quite simple - but do the job. Streaming to a Smart TV worked first time. 09 February 2015

Rated 5 out of 5 by OMG this was easy to set up After reading the reviews on here I was slightly put off the unit until I read the review from the gentleman that said it was straight forward so I brought one today and ........ Within say 10 minutes it was set up and fully working with two iPads and two iPhones with all content fully transferred over Can't really see why anybody else had problems as it was extremely easy and very straight forward Maybe you guys that can't set it up, did you actually to plug it in??? 05 October 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Not fit for purpose I bought this at the end of August and followed the instructions to the letter, after about an hour it was all working fine. I managed to load all of my photos and there they were. So now I sorted out the two iPhones and an iPad, again no problems, great thought I, I even logged in from a MacDonald's near Portsmouth (I live in Worthing)the following morning and hey presto there they all were, a bit slow but there they were. That was as good as it got, now two weeks later I cannot access the thing from anywhere except my home wifi, all I get is 'Device offline', I even tried going in via the internet at work, all I get is 'server not accessed try again later'. I have tried everything I know, even reset it all, still nothing. I've tried contacting WD and they don't bother responding and unfortunately the forums I've tried seem to assume everyone has a degree in rocket science, I'm not thick but I don't understand a word of what they say. To produce a product that quite clearly has serious operating and setup problems is very poor form and to back that up with absolutely no customer service is just plain wrong. I'm now thinking that I'll cut my losses and send it back and simply buy another hard drive. Disappointed doesn't even begin to describe how I feel. I only gave it one star because so far it's not managed to lose my data. My advice is don't buy this product, it's not fit for purpose and simply doesn't do what it says on the tin!!! 14 September 2014
