NOW’S THE TIME TO STAMP YOUR MARK ON YOUR LIVING ROOM. FROM GORGEOUS COLOUR TO LUXE TEXTURES AND STATEMENT PIECES, GO ON – EXPRESS YOURSELF
When it comes to personalising our living rooms, many of us have a new-found confidence. This brave new interior world owes much to fashion, where there’s been an abundance of prints and a riot of pattern over the past year. This love of maximalism and a desire to express our individuality means we’re creating ‘wow’ moments in our living spaces.
Velvet is perfect for a bold living space. Our Belgrave Sofa in Harriet Mustard is a statement buy you’ll love for years to come, and works really well styled with a mix of cushions in rich colours. As Partner & Home Design Stylist Sandra McCall explains: ‘It’s not just a case of adding a pop of colour with an accent cushion any more – now we’re doing it with an accent sofa.’ Not looking to replace your sofa? You can still embrace the look with an upholstered armchair, pouffe or rug.

It’s easy to go bold with dramatic wallpaper. Choose a large-scale print, like our Designers Guild The Rose design, which, while busy, still works as a backdrop to pictures and prints. This look is all about playing with colour, scale and pattern, finding things that complement each other. Working within a contained colour palette will help you get started – here, we’ve used mainly spice shades, adding a flash of teal here and there. If you’re still unsure, then look to the things you enjoy for inspiration. As a space it should reflect the things you love – if that’s reading, then colour-code your coffee-table books for a colour punch, or if you sew or paint, then make your hobby part of the room – this is your place to be expressive.

Unsure where to start with a display? Pick out colours from a favourite piece of artwork as a palette for your accessories. Curate favourite pieces on a side table or mantelpiece, choosing a rainbow of colours and a variety of shapes to add plenty of interest. Glassware will catch the light to give your room added vibrancy.
‘There are plenty of luxurious materials in this room – velvet, brass and dark wood, which all work together, adding layers of visual interest,’ says Sarah O’Sullivan, Partner & Designer, Home Design Studio.
