CREATE A COSY RETREAT WITH THIS WARM, NATURAL SCHEME, WHERE SUMPTUOUS TEXTURES AND A SOFT PALETTE COMBINE TO MAKE A SPACE TO ESCAPE FROM THE WORLD

Calm, inviting and tranquil, with a relaxed feel. This living room is a welcome space from our busy lives – we all deserve our own retreat. This room will make you want to cocoon, hibernate and slow down. It’s full of tactile materials, with a soft colour palette and a large corner sofa breaking up the room into cosy, snug zones.

GO FOR RELAXED SEATING

This space is super-flexible, featuring plenty of comfortable seating options. The Platform Sofa in Hope Grey helps to break up the large room into cosier zones, and, once arranged with our Cane Armchair in Marylamb Storm, forms an inviting u-shape arrangement around the fireplace. Perfect for lazy Sunday afternoons.

There are plenty of other seating options, from armchairs to pouffes, which create corners to sit and indulge in a good book. Floor lamps and candles add mood, while providing task lighting where needed. ‘This is a space where everyone can unwind and just be,’ says Fionnuala Johnston, Partner & Senior Designer, Home Studio.

This room has lots of depth, thanks to its gorgeous layers and generous corner sofa

ADD NATURAL TEXTURES

Linen, sheepskin and wool are key to this look, adding that all-important texture hit. Touches of black, like the Design Project by John Lewis No.168 Arched Floor Lamp and HAY Tulou Coffee Table, add definition to the scheme. Our jute pouffe is the perfect spot to pop your feet up, while a selection of baskets keep clutter at bay and add plenty of texture. An abundance of houseplants bring a sense of calm and tranquility, as well as providing many health benefits including stress relief and improving air quality.

Tactility is so important to creating this scheme. Use plenty of layers, along with rich plum accents

CURATE YOUR ACCESSORIES

It’s not just about layering the sofa with throws and cushions – layered displays add to the sense of warmth. Prop framed prints against a wall and position vases in front. Give a display extra height by arranging objects on top of a pile of books, or bring in a touch of the great outdoors with plants and foliage. Choose a theme for your artwork, for example colour or style, and hang where you can sit and appreciate them.

Use plenty of candles to create a cosy atmosphere – choose a lovely scent that evokes memories

CREATE A SENSE OF WARMTH

Bring in plenty of textured accessories such as rugs, cushions and throws, choosing cottons, faux fur and linen to add to the sense of wellbeing – this is a room made for snuggling in. Scented candles and a roaring fire play to our sense of smell and help take this living room into the autumn months.

‘As our lives become more hectic, having a space to enjoy becomes increasingly important,’ says Fionnuala. ‘Create somewhere to hibernate, cosy down and get ready for Christmas.’
