Tips for sleeping in hot weather

TOO HOT TO SLEEP?

When temperatures soar unexpectedly, it can become a real nightmare to get a good night’s sleep. Don’t sweat the small stuff a second longer and follow our tips for both keeping your home cool and to help you wake up feeling rested and refreshed.

The big chill

THE BIG CHILL

Put your pillowcase into a sandwich or plastic bag and place in the freezer just before hitting the hay. The result? A wonderfully cold pillowcase that will keep tossing and turning to a minimum

Put your freezer to further good use and fill a bag with some frozen rice and rest it against sensitive pulse points found on your ankles, wrists and tops of your feet for instant cooling at night

CREATE A SLEEP SANCTUARY

CREATE A SLEEP SANCTUARY

Choose cotton bed linen. Pure cotton has temperature-regulating properties to help you stay cool and comfortable. A percale weave feels crisp and cool all night long, like our 400 Thread Count Crisp & Fresh Egyptian Cotton sheeting

Invest in a flat sheet, or take your duvet out of its cover and sleep under a thin layer on balmy nights. You could also try our range of temperature-balancing bed linen, created using an innovative weave that wicks heat away from the body for all-night comfort Like the feel of a duvet but want to stay cool? Try a low tog duvet with a cotton casing and a smooth thread count for even heat distribution. Typically, a 4.5 tog and a 9 tog combination duvet can be used separately in summer and spring/autumn respectively, or poppered together when the weather gets colder to create a cosy 13.5 tog. Browse our All Seasons duvets and rest easy, whatever the temperature

Think smart

THINK SMART

Stay cool and collected and place a tray or a bowl of ice or cold water in front of a fan to circulate cool air throughout your home. Both quiet and powerful, the Dyson Cool™ AM07 Tower Fan can be controlled by a remote for precise airflow control, while a sleep timer can be programmed to turn off after preset intervals, for ease of use throughout the night

Clean, cool air makes a welcome relief during heat spikes and the Dyson Pure Cool Link Tower Purifying Fan comes into its own during the summer months. This powerful fan can circulate purified air throughout large rooms with ease. You can also remotely control your environment, as it automatically monitors, reacts and purifies, and then reports the results straight to the Dyson Link app on your smartphone or tablet.

THE JOY OF H2O

On balmy nights, sprinkle your bed linen with droplets of water, or a spray of chilled water mist. This will help to cool you down and make you more comfortable. You could also fill a hot water bottle with chilled water, or put it in the freezer shortly before bedtime and keep it to hand on intensely hot nights

Drift off with ease

DRIFT OFF WITH EASE

Have a lukewarm shower or bath just before bed. While cold water might seem like a good idea to cool down quickly, the shock to your body will encourage heat retention. A lukewarm bath will help you to maintain a more balanced body temperature. You could also try a pillow spray rich in essential oils like lavender, camomile or vetivert, which are proven to help relax the mind and body, relieve tension and calm nerves, promoting a good night’s sleep

EASY BREEZY

EASY BREEZY

Open all windows on the same floor in your home to create a blow-through and pull curtains two-thirds of the way across to block out hot sun but still allow the breeze to circulate

Blackout blinds will keep rooms dark and cool during summer months and stop heat building in rooms during the day. Even if you don't have blinds, keep curtains closed to maintain a more balanced temperature throughout your home
