WHAT TO WEAR...
IN ALL WEATHERS
Our weather has become increasingly unpredictable; the seasons are less-defined, train journeys are hot and office air con fluctuates.
To take some of the guesswork out of everyday outfitting, we've come up with a few easy looks that take you from office to off-duty and school run to sauvignon...
Layering is key for seasonless outfitting – lightweight jackets often get more wear than heavy wool styles. Trench coats, parkas and leather jackets are the easiest pieces to throw on and go.
Furthermore, monochrome works on everyone and is trend-resistant. Washed black jeans are a year-round staple, roll them up with sandals in the spring, pair them with ankle boots in the rain, the options are endless.
Now long-established as a tailoring essential, the blazer adds gravity and a dash of sophistication to hurriedly-put-together outfits. Keep it to hand for boardroom meetings, impromptu outdoor lunches or wear it over your shoulders at dinner for an ultra-chic way to layer.
The longer length keeps the smart shape contemporary and current.
Stripes are often associated with summer, but they're good-to-go all year round. They break up block colour and add a subtle twist. They're basically a neutral.
A trench coat is lightweight and packable – ideal for throwing in a holdall for mini breaks, layering over weekday separates or wearing with off-duty outfits.
Extra points for the up-to-the-minute khaki hue.
The key is to keep most of your wardrobe pared-back and simple. This doesn't mean boring or beige (some beige is fine). Sleek, effortless pieces can mean anything from a failsafe white tee to a premium cashmere jumper or leather jacket. The thing they have in common isn't price or fanciness, it's versatility and easy elegance – the clothes you don't have to think about too much.
