FAQS
Click & Collect Self Check-In

What is self check-in for Click & Collect?

We’ve introduced ‘self check-in' to create less waiting time when you’re collecting an order. You can let us know when you’re arriving and we’ll start preparing your order for collection.

How do I use self check-in?

If self check-in is available, we’ll notify you when your order is ready to collect and send you a separate text message with further instructions.

When should I check in?

You can check in when you’re on your way or while you’re in the shop. Please speak to a Partner at the Welcome Desk or Customer Collection Point to collect your order.

Where should I go to collect my order?

Once you have checked in you can collect from the Welcome Desk or Customer Collection Point

How long will you hold my order for after I check in?

We’ll hold your order at the Collection Point for a maximum of 30 minutes, but we’ll keep your order in store for 7 days from receiving it, after which we’ll return the order to the warehouse and refund your account. Please note that this may take up to 14 days to process.

What if I don’t want to collect my order right away?

You can let us know whenever you’re arriving using the link in the text message.

Can I still ask for my order when I get to the shop?

Yes, you can choose to check in on the device in store or simply ask a Partner for your order when you arrive.

Can I check in from the car park?

Car park collection is available in some locations. Please park in one of the marked collection spaces when you arrive at the shop and use the link in your text or email to check in. Your parcel will be brought to the car.

Why is Click & Collect not available for my order?

If you’re not given the Click & Collect option at checkout, some of the items in your order are not eligible for this type of delivery.

Our collection services are only available on items which can be delivered by a single courier, so heavier items which need two people to carry them won’t be suitable for Click & Collect. In addition, items only delivered by our approved suppliers won’t be available for Click & Collect as they'll be delivered direct to your home.

If you’d like to Click & Collect, please place a separate order with the items where the option is available.

Why isn't my Click & Collect order showing as available to pick up tomorrow?

Our order deadline is at 4pm for next day collection where available (not all locations offer next day collections); on rare occasions, we may need to bring this forward, but you'll always be shown the earliest collection date in checkout.

How will I know when my Click & Collect order is ready?

We'll send you an email when your order is ready, confirming your chosen shop. If you chose to use Collect+ they will send you an email when your order is ready, confirming your unique barcode, pickup location and address.

If you’ve given us your mobile number, we’ll also send you a text when your order is ready for collection. You can collect as soon as you’ve received either your email or text.

I've lost my order confirmation email or text message - What can I do?

Please check the junk mail folder within your email account, as occasionally confirmation emails can end up here.

Otherwise, if you were logged in to your online account when you made the purchase, simply sign in and find the order number from the relevant purchase. Make a note of this and bring it to the shop when you collect.

If you weren’t logged in at time of purchase, we may still be able to release your order if collecting from a John Lewis & Partners store only. Bring your photo ID or passport and quote your name and postcode to the collection Partner at the desk.

To keep your order safe, we don’t let anyone collect on your behalf unless they have your order number and their photo ID.

I haven't had an email or text message to confirm my order has arrived - what should I do?

If you ordered before 4pm, your order will be available to collect the next day from 3pm (dependent on your chosen location); so please wait until after 4pm to contact us. If there’s any delay to your order, we’ll text you (if you’ve given us your mobile number) to let you know.

If you still haven’t received a confirmation message after 4pm the following day, our Customer Services team should be able to check the location of your parcel. Call them on 03456 049 049 7am - 11pm, 7 days a week.

What do I need to bring to collect my order?

We need to see your 9-digit order number from your text message or email. If you chose Collect+ please bring your phone with you to show the unique 7-digit barcode from your text message or email as proof of purchase, or print out the email confirming your order is ready for pickup.

You will need to bring proof of ID such as:-

  • the payment card you used for the order, or
  • a current photo driver's licence or passport

Collect+ accept the following forms of ID:

  • Cheque guarantee / Credit / Debit Card- Bank / Building society book
  • Valid passport
  • Cheque book
  • Driving licence
  • Utility bill

We cannot release your order without seeing your ID.

If you paid entirely with gift vouchers, a gift card, Apple Pay or Paypal, please bring either your passport, photocard driving licence or your device account number from your Wallet & Apple Pay.

You may need to prove that you're 18 or over upon collection if you have an age-restricted item, such as alcohol, in your order. This is in accordance with the Challenge 25 policy

Can someone collect on my behalf?

We're happy for someone else to collect your order, but to safeguard you from fraud,  there are a few things they will need to show:

If someone else is picking up your Click & Collect order for you, they will need to bring your order number and their own ID.

However, if someone is picking up your Collect+ order on your behalf, they will need to present your order number and your ID.

How long will you hold my order?

We’ll hold your order in store for 7 days (Collect+ is 10 days), after which we’ll return the order to the warehouse and refund your account. Please note that this may take up to 14 days to process once the order has left the shop.

What time shall I pick up my order?

Any time after 3pm on your chosen day, but please wait for our email or text confirmation before you set off. If you have chosen a Collect + location look out for a Collect + email, and a text confirmation if you have added your mobile number to the order. Please check the opening times of your chosen location as they all differ. Please note: during browsing time on a Sunday you won't be able to collect your order if you have chosen to collect from one of our shops.

Where do I pick my order up in store?

John Lewis & Partners and Waitrose & Partners shops

When you arrive, you’ll need to find the Partner managing the queue at the front of the entrance who will show you how to collect your order. If you only wish to collect an order, you’ll be directed straight to the collection point and won’t be able to do any further shopping. If you wish to shop, please stay in the queue and collect your order as normal when you enter the shop.

Look for the 'Customer Collection Point' in John Lewis & Partners or the ‘Customer Services’ desk in Waitrose & Partners, where there’ll be a Partner on hand to help. Some shops also offer self check-in devices.

The location of collection points in Co-op stores and Booths and Shell garages will vary. Look out for signage directing you to the correct location.

What is Car Park Collect and which shops offer this service?

You can now collect John Lewis orders at selected Waitrose stores without leaving your car – just park in a ‘Car Park Collect’ bay, and a Partner will bring your shopping out to you.

You’ll be able to see if your local Waitrose is offering the service when you select your collection point on the Checkout page. We are currently looking at new shops where we can offer this service.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Upon arrival please follow the signs to the designated parking bays where a Partner will come and take your order number, then they will collect your shopping for you. As always, we need to see your 9-digit order number from your text message or email, and proof of ID to release your order.

Is this service available at John Lewis stores?

Not at the moment. The service is currently only available at selected Waitrose shops.

I was unable to collect my Click & Collect order, what happens next?

We’ll hold your order in store for 7 days (10 days for Collect+), after which we’ll return it to our warehouse and refund your account. This can take up to 14 days.

How can I return my Click & Collect order?

You can return a Click & Collect order to:

  • Any John Lewis & Partners shop (this is the fastest way to receive a refund)
  • Any Waitrose & Partners shop (except Welcome Break sites and Waitrose & Partners branches within John Lewis & Partners Horsham, Ipswich, Kingston)
