Brand Story

Debbie Bliss

"As a fashion designer specialising in hand knits I am not only interested in and aware of current and future trends but also excited by the possibilities and versatility of the knitted fabric .

It is very important to me that my designs flatter all shapes and sizes, on certain lengths I will use " A “ lines so that the garment is not tight around the hips or on jackets use tailoring and subtle shaping to create a waist . The privilege of having my own yarn brand means that I can swatch my yarns, discover their qualities and strengths, whether they drape or have crisp stitch detail for example , and this will also inspire the look of the collection.

When working with my two A/W yarns FALKLAND ARAN and LHASA, the classic nature of the Falkland yarn immediately made me think of traditional stitches and generous , sporty shapes whilst the luxurious fibres of LHASA inspired simple but elegant styles to show off the beauty of the fabric.

There is no specific age for the woman I have in mind when I design. My philosophy is to create fashion led knits that when worn will take on the personality of the wearer whatever age. I am lucky enough to work with a young team, my daughter Nell and design assistant Abbie Butler have pieces from the Debbie Bliss and Conway and Bliss collections but wear them differently depending on their own  personal style. Similarly I will wear the same garment styled in a way that makes it feel right for me. A popular feature  on my blog has been to photograph selected designs on women of all ages and with different shapes to show how they can be look great on everyone.

This is a very exciting time for hand knitting and I'm looking forward to sharing my new designs and new yarns."
