This simple floor lamp, designed by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, uses an energy-efficient LED bulb for focused and clear light. The fold design is typical of Osgerby and Barber and is completed with a painted aluminium finish. With a 45 degree rotating head, the LED is diffused to avoid a multi-shadowed effect.
Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby are the British designers perhaps best know for designing the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Torches. They have had a hugely successful career designing across multidisciplines that include furniture, lighting and product design. The also have permanent collections in museums across England and Stateside.
Edward and Jay met when they were studying their Master’s degree in architecture at London’s Royal College of Art. Staying together after to design the Loop table, their first furniture piece. It was spotted by Italian furniture designer Guilio Cappellini while showing at the London Design Fair and he introduced it to his 1998 Cappellini collection, which rocketed them into international fame.
Much of their work features the folding and shaping of sheet material, which is featured in their 2007 Tab lamp design. In 2013, the designers were both appointed with an OBE for their services to the design industry.
Flos are one of the longest established premier lighting designers and have created some of the most iconic shapes. They were founded in 1962 by Dino Gavina and Cesare Cassina who enlisted the aid of Achille Castiglioni, Pier Giacomo Castiglioni and Tobia Scarpa to design. They soon went on to open their first store in 1968 and would eventually go on to design for residential, commercial and bespoke use for hotels, offices and stores.
