Better Cotton Initiative

The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) trains farmers to care for the environment and promote fair and decent work. By buying cotton products from John Lewis, you’re supporting BCI Farmers who:

-  Use water efficiently

-  Care for the health of the soil and natural habitat

-  Reduce the use of the most harmful chemicals

-  Promote decent work

Global Organic Textile Standard

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) sets strict environmental and social criteria throughout the supply chain in order to protect the environment, working communities and the way the organic fibre is processed. From the harvesting of the raw material, through the manufacturing processes, up to packaging and labelling.

The Forest Stewardship Council® works to safeguard the world's forests. FSC certification provides a credible link between responsible forest management and the consumption of forest products, enabling you to make purchasing decisions that benefit people and the environment.

100% of our wooden outdoor furniture is FSC-certified.

The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification only endorses timber from a fully sustainable source, where wood is harvested with respect for natural habitats, and for workers' human and economic rights.

Goods bearing the Fairtrade symbol are produced in a supply chain where producers receive a fair price and workers' rights meet international standards with respect to working conditions and environment.
