How to measure for pleated curtains
Positioning your track or pole
- Choose whether you want your curtain to hang from a track or a pole
- Position your track or pole 15cm above your window with 15-20cm either side
- Always fit the track or pole before taking measurements for curtains
- Curtain measurements should be the width of the track or pole so they can be drawn right back, unless the window fits wall-to-wall
To be sure of the best possible fit, we suggest using a metal tape measure for accuracy. |

Measuring for tracks
For a curtain track
- Measure the total width of the track including the overlap if there is one
- Only measure the window if it’s wall-to-wall
Choosing the drop of your curtains
Before measuring the drop, you have to decide where you want your curtains to fall.
- Drop to sill – Finish 1cm above the sill
- Drop below sill – Finish 10-15cm below, depending on radiator obstructions
- Drop to floor – Finish 1cm from the floor
If you want your curtains to drape and gather on the floor, add 10-15cm to the drop to create this effect.
Please note: we will allow for hems and turnings. |
Measuring the drop
- Measure from the top of the track to where you want the curtain to finish
- When your curtains arrive, make sure the adjustable curtain hooks sit in the middle to bottom of the heading so the track is hidden
Measure the drop in 3 places across the track as floors and sills may be uneven; use the shortest of these 3 measurements. |
