Minimum 42 centimeters

Minimum 50 centimeters

Please measure installation height accurately to dictate the correct chain length.

N.B. This is measured vertically from the fixing point of the blind down to the floor (even if installing above a kitchen sink/worktop). It is required in order to comply with strict child safety legislation.

The minimum installation height is 180cm

To calculate the chain length expected on your blind deduct 150cm from your installation height.

3. Choose lining options

Please note: A blackout blind fitted INSIDE a recess will not block out light completely. The mechanism requires a 1cm gap to operate, so a 'frame' of light will shine through. Also some blackout blinds have a Stab Stitch detail resulting in pinholes which cannot be prevented.

If complete blackout is required, please consider installing a blind OUTSIDE the recess.

How to measure for roman blinds

Choose whether you want your Roman blind fitted inside or outside your recess. The recess is the space within your window area.

To make sure the blind and fittings works for your window space, please provide exact measurements. Measurements should be input to one decimal place.

Measuring inside the recess

- Having your Roman blind fitted inside the recess means your blind will be concealed inside the frame.

- This option blocks out most light from the room.

- Please make sure no wall fittings or window handles will obstruct your blind.

- You should have your blind fitted outside your recess if your window opens inwards or your recess is too shallow for the blind mechanism (less than 7.5cm).

Measure width (cm)

Measure height (cm)

measure height

First, measure the window recess width from edge to edge in 3 places, as shown in the diagram. Then, measure the height in 3 places. We ask you to take 3 measurements as your walls may not be straight.

Make a note of the shortest measurement (cm). Take 1cm off this shortest measurement and use this as your final width for the Roman Blind. (This ensures the blind has the necessary clearance when installed within the recess.)

Measuring outside the recess

- Having your Roman blind fitted outside the recess means it will be fitted on the wall outside your window are.

- Please make sure no wall fittings or window handles will obstruct your blind.

- You should have your blind fitted outside your recess if your window opens inwards or your recess is too shallow for the blind mechanism (less than 7.5cm).

1. Measure width (cm)

measure width

Measure the recess width edge to edge in 3 places as your walls may not be straight.

Please make note of the biggest measurement (cm).

overlap

Decide how much clearance you would like on each side of the width of the window. It’s recommended 10cm each side, with a minimum of 7.5cm each side.

Add it all together.

measure height

Measure from recess height edge to edge, again in 3 places. Make a note of the biggest measurement (cm).

measure height

Decide how much clearance you would like top and bottom. It’s recommended 10cm top and 10cm bottom. Minimum 7.5cm top and 7.5cm bottom.

What is the installation height?

This measurement enables us to give you the correct length of control chain for your made-to-measure Roman Blind, whilst complying with strict child safety legislation.

Measure vertically from a fixing point of the blind (where the headrail will be fixed to the wall) down to the floor. Even if your blind is above a kitchen sink/worktop, we still need the installation height to be measured from the headrail to the floor.

It’s illegal to supply an internal window blind that doesn’t comply with child safety requirements. See our blind buying guide for further information.

Stacking Styles

Standard

positioning of track or pole
positioning of track or pole

This style of Roman blind folds stack level when the blind is drawn. This gives the smallest stack measurement, blocking the least amount of light when fitted in a window recess.

Waterfall

positioning of track or pole
positioning of track or pole

This style of Roman blind folds stack insteps, leaving a more decorative look when drawn. This option extends the stack measurement when drawn and blocks more light when fitted in a recess.
