THE MULTITASKING STYLE ESSENTIALS
The new Kin by John Lewis collection goes back to basics with Japanese and Scandinavian style. We asked one of our personal stylists how to work some of the highlights into your everyday wardrobe.
The prints and sculptural silhouettes of Japan may seem an unlikely pairing with the clean modernity of Scandinavian style, but the exclusive Kin by John Lewis collection has been inspired by both this autumn.
The pieces work together seamlessly and are versatile enough to stay in your wardrobe season after season. Indeed, armed with a few basics and wardrobe staples, you can rework them for any occasion, says Lucy Knight, a personal stylist at John Lewis Birmingham.
Insider news asked Lucy to share her styling tips for some of the key pieces in the collection.
THE PRINTED TOP
THE ASYMMETRIC SKIRT
THE OVERSIZED SHIRT
"The oversized trend was huge this summer, and it’s here to stay. We’ve layered two shirts for a relaxed daytime look, but the smock shirt on its own can look really classic. Try going down a size or two for a more polished look, then buttoning it to the top and teaming it with a statement necklace, skinny jeans and ankle boots."
THE KIMONO DRESS
"This kimono-inspired dress is such a versatile piece to add to your wardrobe. Dress it down with trainers, which have really come into their own this year – they’re the new ballet pumps. Or for an elegant autumnal look, try cinching in the waist with a belt and wear with thick black tights and heeled ankle boots."
