Made in a plain percale weave with a 200-thread count, the collection requires mininal ironing and is easy to care for, keeping you cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
Similar to Egyptian cotton, it has an extra long staple that creates a fine, durable and continuously opulent finish and is grown primarily in the United States, Peru and Australia. Silk offers the ultimate indulgence. Not only does it feel exquisite, it regulates your body temperature to keep you warm in winter and cool in the summer. Revered for its fabulous health and beauty benefits, it proactively helps to retain moisture in your skin and hair which can minimise wrinkles and prevent ‘bed head’ frizz and static.
Our silk bedding can be machine washed at 40°C as well as tumble dried, making it as easy to care for as it is luxuriously comfortable.
Thread counts & weaves
A term used often in bed linen, ‘thread count’ refers to the number of threads in one square inch of fabric and applies to the ‘warp’ – threads woven horizontally – and the ‘weft’ – threads woven vertically. Typically, the higher the thread count, the finer and smoother the fabric will be against the skin.
However, the feel and quality of bed linen is based on much more than thread count. Fine and high quality thread is hugely important when it comes to creating duvet covers, pillowcases and sheeting that feel luxurious against the skin. Without the great quality cotton we use in our duvet covers, pillowcases and sheeting, we couldn’t use thread count to its best potential.
The simplest of all weaves, the warp (horizontal thread) and weft (vertical) are aligned in a basic criss-cross pattern, overlapped to create a light, soft and comfortable finish.
The percale weave is much tighter than a plain weave, typically with a thread count of at least 200, and offers a smooth feel with a matte look.
The sateen weave tends to be used with cotton or rayon and produces a luxurious yet strong finish. Featuring a ‘weft face’ construction, where the surface is almost entirely made up of vertical threads, it features a silky front and a plain, dull reverse.
Meanwhile, the satin weave is used with silk, polyester or nylon and drapes beautifully. Its construction is very similar to sateen except that it is made up of a ‘warp face’ weave, where the surface is almost entirely made up of horizontal threads, which lay flatter for a fine finish.
A jacquard weave is created on a loom and involves raising warp threads independently to form a tactile pattern and, as a result, feels thicker and more substantial because of the extra threads used to form it.
Seersucker fabric can be created through a chemical treatment or a weaving process, which involves one warp held under normal tension and the other held much tighter, creating the puckered or crinkled seersucker effect.
For a flannelette finish, the weft is ‘napped’ – meaning that it has been scratched and raised up – in contrast with the smooth warp, creating a super-soft and cosy feel.
