Q & As

Siemens SN25M280GB Dishwasher, White 3.8 5 20 20
Very disappointed This dishwasher does not work very well. I put it on the Eco mode and I often end up having to wash half of it by hand afterwards. We have to clean the entire thing out far too regularly and I have to ensure that every last particle is removed from dishes before they go in, which almost renders the dishwasher useless. My mother has the same model and gave up using it after a few months (and several call outs) and now washes everything by hand. She was told by the engineer that these dishwashers don't work very well because they have to meet with the European standard of being ecological. It just means they are ineffective. Another friend of mine (not with this make) says she only gets good results if it is on Intensive wash. A friend has a SMEG and says she has the same problems. They certainly don't build them like they used to. Maybe it's a product-wide thing, maybe it's just my make. I can't believe it's just my model as my mother and I have similar problems. 26 November 2014
Did not last as long as expected. The dishwasher is now 4 years old and when I purchased it I thought that by going for a premium model it was last a long time as my Miele washing machine. But unfortunately not the machine is now giving an error (E25) every time it empties the water; this is quite disappointing so the next one will be a different brand. 13 November 2014
Swapped from Bosch, no complaints After 14 years with a Bosch I went to the store to buy a new one (Bosch that is), but the door buttons etc felt better on the Siemens and the 5 year guarantee was free with it, so elected to change to this Siemens model. Since my old Bosch had a cutlery basket I thought I'd keep hold of it just in case - I saw some poor comments on this machine regarding the cutlery drawer. The basket fits really well as half of the rear "prongs" on the Siemens lower rack can be lowered independently, so if you find you need a basket they are pretty cheap on Amazon. Some other comments I saw complained about 3+ hours washing cycle, thats true enough, but there is the "Vario Speed" button that cuts it to around 90 minutes, at the cost of a little more water and power. This speedy setting still seems to get the job done, I used it several times when I was too lazy to load the machine at night and needed it doing in the morning. So I was all prepared to ditch the cutlery rack even before buying the unit - I needn't have worried, its worked great on the Auto program. Quite how it does that is a little bit of a mystery to me, since the water jets should get blocked by the items on the rack below it ... whatever magic Siemens are employing, its working for me, and my old cutlery basket is at the back of the cupboard. Possibly my good results are as a result of not using the default Eco setting - I'm suspicious of that as a default setting, as it may have been designed just to provide low energy and water results for the European test rating. If you are having issues therefore I suggest first using Auto as your standard setting and also ditching the dishwasher tablets which are known to be much worse at cleaning than separate dishwasher powder (the manufacturers get paid to recommend them as there is a high profit in them). 22 October 2014
Disappointed with machine, especially with top cutlery tray I really don't like the top tray for cleaning cutlery in this machine, even on intensive wash I find that cutlery cleaning is poor unless you have very little on the middle mugs tray and not great even then. Also the cutlery tray holders only hold thin tableware handles, not the fatter handles of kitchen knives. I have had to put the cutlery basket from my old machine in the bottom which works but takes space for plates. This top shelf also reduces height on the mugs shelf so bowls are a problem. As well as this the detergent holder is rather small for the all in one tablets and the book actually recommends that the machine works better with individual liquid or power and rinse aid rather than these modern tablets. Plate cleaning is mostly OK on intensive, haven't tried any other program as the book seems to say the automatic ones only work well if everything is equally soiled so sensor looking at water gets suitable result. As always John Lewis delivery service was very good. 19 August 2014
No better than a cheaper make or model Very quiet. Cuttlery tray is an improvement on a basket as utensils are separated and come out clean. However the contents of the dishwasher dont dry particularly well even using the 'extra dry' feature. It is also difficult to stack plates that have a lip and are thicker than a bone china type plate. When choosing a new dishwasher in the future I would take a plate with me and try it in the rack to make sure it fitted. 12 August 2014
So Quiet -Highly recommended This dishwasher bought to replace a Bosch that had given good service but had would run and run with a minute left to go. Can say that this is the quietest dishwasher I have ever come across. Like the cutlery drawer and am generally very impressed. Had a recent discussion with a whitegoods repair expert, and he suggested Siemens was a good choice and would have to agree with him. Highly recommended. Always go to John Lewis for purchases like this but wish delivery on whitegoods was quicker. Most people buy because their old machine has gone pop and they need to replace it immediately. Not so critical with a dishwasher but certainly a washing machine is a near daily need for most families - you need 'next day delivery' not in a week plus. 06 August 2014
Extremely disappointed Unlike other reviewers having had an AEG for the past 7 years I am extremely disappointed with this product. It is impossible to wash a dinner plate larger than 10.5 inches with the top tray down and raising the top tray then prevents you washing glasses taller than 5". Granted it is extremely quiet but a 3 hr.15 mins wash on eco!!?? FULL MARKS to John Lewis - having had this product for a couple of days we have today exchanged it without any hassle for another AEG (granted more expensive but will do all that we want having taken our plates and glasses with us to John Lewis to check) . My advice - take a glass and a large plate with you when you select your next machine. 31 July 2014
Not great Pretty much the same in performance as the Beko it replaces, cutlery draw doesn't clean as well as a basket so have removed the draw and used the basket from previous dishwasher. On the plus side this gives more room for the top basket, meaning you can put taller objects in even at the highest height setting. I only use 70 degree wash now as can't guarantee the vario or auto settings will get everything clean. Even on 70 degree it doesn't get rid of egg from bowls that has been soaked overnight beforehand, and also items near the edge of the dishwasher do not clean well. Extra racks at the back of the bottom drawer look like a good idea but haven't used them as that space is almost always used for big cooking pans/plates so they can't fold down anyway... The dishwasher was dropped whilst being delivered but was advised it is cosmetic so shouldn't affect performance. Overall not impressed, especially given the price. 29 July 2014
