Cuisinart DBM8U Auto Burr Coffee Grinder 3.8 5 31 31
Very Good Grinder A great machine for grinding spices(dried garlic, caraway seeds, coriander seeds, black pepper corn etc...". Like others have said, the grind is not very fine, but for spices it's ok. The machine is well built and John Lewis and staff are EXCELLENT as usual. 30 March 2014
Won't grind espresso grade I should have read the reviews before I bought this. If you're interested in espresso this is not the grinder for you, even though Cuisinart say it will do the job. No reason to doubt it's good for other courser grinds. John Lewis were great at refunding my money pronto, which I'll spend on something else I need from JL, all credit to their excellent customer service. 19 March 2014
Well made and still going strong after 6 years I bought one of these from JL in 2007 and it is still working fine. I'm no coffee snob so can't comment on whether it goes 'fine enough for espresso' but for use in the filter coffee machine at work it does just fine. I agree with the comment someone else made that the plastic receptacle develops extraordinary amounts of static so you have to scrape the coffee from the sides. I also disagree with the description which says that it 'grinds the beans evenly and quietly' - evenly maybe but quietly? No chance, it makes one heck of a noise. I said above that I am not a coffee snob and I will qualify that by saying that my favourite beans to date are Starbucks regular - very nice. 09 January 2014
Not good enough for espresso machines I purchased this on the strength of the reviews despite a few of the reviewers feeling that it doesn't grind coffee fine enough for espresso. They are correct - it doesn't. Even on the finest grind the coffee is not fine enough to use in my Gaggia machine which is my preferred method of making my coffees. I really should have returned the item but I ordered it prior to my holiday and by the time I returned and gave it another go I had had it in my possession for over two weeks. 15 October 2013
It works but that's all Bought this because it was the best reviewed of the lower-priced burr grinders. After being driven nuts by it in many ways, I've now bought a GOOD burr grinder; this was a waste of money. 1. Very uneven grind - coarse in the middle and super-fine sticking to the edges of the container. 2. Extraordinarily noisy. 3. Plastic receptacle for the grounds means really annoying static electricity. 4. no on-off switch; instead you have to figure out how many cups IT thinks you want to make with the amount of coffee beans you're grinding. Or else you have to slide the setting bar all the way over and slide it back when the coffee's done grinding. Moral is, don't waste money on a mediocre grinder. Get a KitchenAid or equivalent - 3x the cost but 33x the happiness. 24 July 2013
Not fine enough Grind isn't fine enough for espresso machines. I will have to return it. 27 June 2013
Not Suitable for Espresso I tried this grinder. Then returned it. It really isn't suitable for espresso. The grind is not fine enough and not consistent enough for an espresso machine. It may be okay for filter or a cafetière, but definitely not an espresso machine. 29 May 2013
so far - so good! This machine was purchased one month ago and has performed well. Only used the fine grinding function so far - for espresso - but so far so good. I would recommend the product with the only criticism being that the collection pot can be a bit awkward to replace once removed. 10 January 2013
